moving day

Archie laughed as Ben picked him up and sat him on his shoulders, helping the little boy pull down all of the teddies on top of his cupboard off so they could put them in a box. Elle was nowhere to be seen, and she hadn't been for a few minutes now, but Ben just assumed she was taking a break from the heavy lifting.

"Got them all?" Ben asks, holding onto Arch's legs to make sure he wouldn't fall. Archie hummed to tell him he had, laughing loudly when Ben leant back and let him fall against the mattress of his bed.

"Mum?" Archie called out, moving his hair out of his face as he wondered where she had gone. He caught a glimpse of her walking past the door, talking on the phone with her other hand in her hair like she had received some bad news.

Ben and Archie looked at each other with confusion written all over their faces, Archie shrugging his shoulders as he picks up the collection of stuffed toys and shoves them into a new box. Ben felt as though something bad was coming and he hated the feeling he had in his stomach when Elle walked by again with her hand still in her hair, a clear frustration on her face.

He carried on helping Archie pack up his stuff as he tried his hardest to listen in on what Elle was saying, catching a few confused noises and a few 'I don't knows' being said.

"Come on Ben." Archie huffs, noticing his mum's boyfriend had become distracted by something. Ben shifted his focus back to the little boy, smiling at him and ruffling his hair softly before he put the various pairs of shoes he was holding into the box.

Elle came back in around five minutes later holding her phone in her hand, looking around the emptyish room before looking at Ben. That gut feeling he had that something was wrong was only growing deeper every minute she looked at him like she was withholding bad information.

"You got the job didn't you?" Ben asks.

Elle simply nodded, looking at him with tears starting to form in her eyes as he shook his head at her and looked at Archie. She felt the lump of guilt rising in her throat as he wiped his face with his hand, letting out a huff of frustration at the same time.

You see, around a month ago Elle decided she wanted to branch out and use her Uni degree in writing to write about the thing she loved the most: Fashion. She loved everything about it, she loved the way she dressed and the way Archie did too, and she especially loved how Ben dressed.

Applying for a few jobs working in men's fashion felt like a good opportunity, and as the days went by without an answer she felt a little bummed out by it. British Vogue had gone with someone else, and she had a few different job offers from other places but her heart was lying with British GQ.

She'd had 3 interviews in-between finding somewhere to live with Ben and when she hadn't gotten a call like she was expecting, she decided that she would move to Leicester with Ben and keep looking whilst she was at home.

"Please don't be upset." Elle speaks finally, alerting Ben she'd accepted the job offer.

He sighed deeply, looking down at the floor as Archi turned around to see what going on, wondering why it had gone very quiet. He slipped out of the room quietly to leave them alone for a few minutes, but also so he could see what snacks there were left for him to eat.

"This is the part where you say 'I have to stay in London' and I end up going back to Leicester on my own, isn't it?" Ben looks at her, moving a hand through his hair in frustration. Elle stayed quiet, she hadn't exactly been told she had to stay in London, and if she did have to be London based she could just get the train from Leicester every day.

He walked out of the room without hearing an answer, assuming that she had to stay and that she wouldn't be moving with him. Elle huffed out a breath she'd been keeping in as she walked out after him, going to see what Archie was doing rather than going to talk to Ben.

She left him to calm down for a while, her and Archie sharing a pot noodle together whilst sitting at the kitchen counter. Once they'd finished, she cleaned up any mess they'd made and sent Archie back upstairs to carry on packing whilst she went to find Ben.

"Angel." Elle frowns, looking at him as he sat on a chair in her empty filming room with a scowl on his face. He looked up at her, hair stuck to his forehead and her favourite cap backwards on his head, phone in his hand to distract him from the thought of not living with her.

"I know you this job is going to require me to stay in London, but it doesn't, or at least I don't think it does. Even if I do, I'll simply tell them that I can get the train every morning and get back the same way. We're coming to Leicester with you, I promise." Elle smiles, standing in front of him with her hands on both sides of his face.

"You pinky promise?" He responds, holding his pinky out for her.

"Pinky promise." She beams softly, wrapping her pinky around his before leaning down to seal it with a kiss.

"I love you." Ben hums, tucking some of her hair behind her ear.

"And I love you."
