I wish I was a space man.
The fastest guy alive.
I'd fly you round the universe,
In Fireball XL-5.
Way out in space together,
Conquerors of the sky,
My heart would be a fireball,
A fireball,
Every time I gazed into your starry eyes.
We'd take the path to Jupiter,
And maybe very soon.
We'd cruise along the Milky Way,
And land upon the moon.
To our wonderland of stardust,
We'll zoom our way to Mars,
My heart would be a fireball,
A fireball,
If you would be my Venus of the stars. But though I'm not a spaceman
Famous and renowned
I'm just a guy that's down to earth
With both feet on the ground
It's all imagination
I'll never reach the stars
My heart is still a fireball, a fireball
Every time I gaze into your starry eyes
My heart is still a fireball, a fireball
Every time I gaze into your starry
My heart would be a Fireball, a Fireball
Cause you would be the angel by my sideBarry Gray's "Fireball" remains on one of the most fondly remembered aspects about the series. Sang by Australian singer Don Spencer, the song was arranged by Charles Blackwell. Aged only 22, Blackwell was becoming a top pop arranger, starting his work with legendary producers Joe Meek and Robert Stigwood, which demonstrated how AP Films was beginning to attract greater scale to their shows. The full version was released commercially in March 1963 and was Barry Gray's only music that got into the charts! The song was a minor hit in the UK, spending 12 weeks in the country's music charts, peaking at number 32 in March 1963 in a single HMV POP 1087 mono format. The release also include the song sung by Don Spencer, and also arranged by Charles Blackwell, I'm All Alone Again. It has been remixed by various artists (some by pretty good ones, but we will just keep to the good ones), re-released in its own albums and with other Fireball XL5/Barry Gray/Gerry Anderson-related albums and records.

The XL5 crew are able to recognise the S.S. Thor and are aware that it belongs to Griselda and Boris, so this episode must be seen after Spy In Space, where they do not know of the Thor's ownership. This is the final appearance of Boris and Griselda in the series. This is another episode I don't seem to remember about for some reason, other than being one of the episodes and last to feature Boris and Griselda. It does however have many high-stakes throughout, interesting alien designs, a gripping plot, and fantastic visuals of the volcano - some of the most outstanding in the show's run, which makes this episode a fine addition to the adventures of Fireball XL5.
