Jay couldn't stop the shaking that came with the sobs that wracked his body. His pitiful wail was heard by Kai, who, when hearing the wretched, wretched cry, stormed into the room and promptly slapped Jay across the face.

"What was that for?" Jay snapped, voice thick with tears. His hand instinctively went to his cheek.

"Why are you crying when this is all your fault?"

Jay could have sworn it wasn't his fault. He glared at Kai for his words, quickly swiping his tears away with the back of his hand. "It wasn't my fault, she chose to do this!"

"If it weren't for you drowning, she wouldn't have merged!"

"It wasn't my fault I drowned!"

"It was your stupidity that got you to drown! Why would you just attack Wojira with absolutely no backup whatsoever? That's dumbass shit! And you couldn't just hold your breath for a little while longer, or broke out of the glass?"

"You could have prevented her from leaving!"

"I was sleeping, motherfucker!"

"I was dying! You think I could have just gotten up and told her to stop? You could have woken up! So technically, it's all your fault for not being aware enough, thank you very much."

Kai growled and fought the urge to slap him across the face again, a tear this time falling from Kai's face. "It's your fault! You're the dumbass! Why did Nya even date you? Are you guys even yin and yang? Why would she choose you out of all people? Why not someone strong, like Cole?"

That was it. Jay shot from the bed, wrestling Kai to the ground, blurred with tears of anger and denial. Kai managed to slip out from under Jay and both boys blindly threw punches and kicks with an aimless goal of hurting the other. Grief, anger, the depression and anxiety that came with losing someone fueled and drained them both. Kai was eventually knocked into the wall and about to throw a ball of fire until Cole and Zane burst into the room.

"What on Earth is going on?" Cole asked. Jay ignored him and attempted to wrestle Kai to the ground once more. No way Kai was getting off. Besides, it was easier to tackle him after being weakened from being shoved against the wall.

Zane spoke up. "Jay, Kai, I am sure there is a much safer and civilized way you could-"

"Get off each other!" Cole roared. He couldn't take any more of the fighting, any more of his brothers fighting. He then went over to pry Jay off and motioned Zane to get Kai. Together, they managed to get the two apart before anything else happened. Kai looked exhausted; his back hurt and half his face was swollen, accented with a bloody lip. Jay, on the other hand, was unscathed and flipped the injured ninja off.

"Fuck you."

Kai glared, but had no energy left from his angry explosion to say something else. He was easily carried off by Zane, while Cole actively had to restrain Jay from attacking Kai again, keeping his wrists behind his back. After a while, Jay exhausted himself and slumped against Cole in defeat.

"Jay, what happened?" Rather than being angry, cole's voice was soft. He let go of Jay's wrists, and Jay curled up into a ball on Cole's lap and cried.

oh, oh what joy. brotherly angst. anyway, hello, welcome to this piece of SHI-

i came up with this idea a while ago, and my only motivation to start posting it was that there were already teasers of the next season. of course, i couldn't allow the canonverse to get into my way, so i decided to at least start.

i do understand that this is pretty poor quality writing--i've barely written anything, really. nonetheless, i do hope this story gets somewhere. updated will of course be inconsistent, but other than that, enjoy.
