Chapter 1 ~ The Purple Thing

It was a late night. I knew what was coming and I already hated the thought of it. I hear footsteps drawing nearer and nearer, pattering along the dirt of my cozy cave room.

"Cleffina! It's your turn to get the berries!" my sister, Clenci shouted in a giggle, springing up next to me.

"I know, I know sis. I'll go get them now I suppose," I mumbled nervously, twiddling my stubby fingers.

"Just...don't get infected, okay?" she said with a caring smile.

I gulped, "I-I won't, Clenci. I'll be careful, I promise!"

"Well, see you soon!" she said, waving to me as I started to leave.

"Alright, bye!" I shouted back, also waving with a small smile.

I cautiously wandered around to find the berry bushes, keeping an eye out for any infected Clefairy or Clefable. When I finally got to the bushes, I plucked some out, making as little noise as possible. That's when I heard a snap of a twig. I jolted and stood without a single movement to listen carefully. There was silence, a cry followed by a thud that had become normal at this point, and then silence again.

I only knew there was one thing to do. I slowly turn around, eyes scanning my surroundings until I was suddenly an inch away from a patch of dark purple fur. I squeaked in surprise and slowly looked up, seeing a giant smile followed by a pair of menacing, glowing red eyes above it. I silently let out a terrified gasp as I feel myself drop all of the berries I had picked onto the dirt.

"P-Please...d-don't infect me," I squeaked out quietly in terror.

The purple giant let out a laugh and said, "Nah, that would be too boring to only do that."

I gulp hard. "W-What will you d-do to me?"

"Oh, I'll just have a bit of fun with you first, cattail," it giggled teasingly.

Before I could say more, my eyes widened as it started to charge up a shadow ball attack. I began to run away but was stuck directly in the back with his attack. I cried in pain as I fell face-first into the ground. Then I felt myself being lifted off the ground by nothing and was turned to see that I was being lifted by the purple thing with telekinesis. I squirmed around but wasn't able to fall back down. I slowly started to feel like I was getting squeezed as my body got tighter and tighter.

"S-Stop! I-It hurts so much!" I cried out weakly in pain.

However, the thing wouldn't stop but instead grin wider at me, its eyes piercing through mine. His terrifying red eyes were the last thing I saw before my vision faded completely into darkness...

~A few hours later~

I felt myself wake up, however, I wasn't in the same spot as I was before. I noticed that I was now on a pile of soft leaves, covered in some old cloth as a blanket. I look around and to my horror, I saw the purple thing sitting against a tree close to where I was. I calmed down a little, realizing that it appeared asleep. I slowly got up, wobbling slightly, and started to try to find my way home. I had the unnerving feeling that I was being watched, but I tried to focus on finding the berry bushes.

Soon enough I was able to find the bushes and get home, being met with a very worried and frustrated sister.

"Where have you been!? I've been worried sick for you! Did you at least one berry?" Clenci scolded me with sweat dripping off her face.

"Yeah, I got some berries. I...just got attacked," I say, mumbling at the last bit as I handed her the berries I had collected.

"What!? Attacked? By who? Are you okay?" Clenci asked with concern in her voice.

"Well, it was pretty tall, like twice the size as we are, and it was purple with two big, red eyes and a terrifying smile! It was so scary!" I told her, shaking. "I'm pretty sure it's what has been causing the infections!"

"Oh my god! Don't tell me you got infected!" she squealed in terror.

"No, no I'm fine, I swear! Let's just get some rest," I said, reassuringly patting her on the shoulder.

"Alright, if you say so," Clenci sighed as we started to walk to our rooms.
