Chapter 8 ~ Shadow Tagged

HEADS UP! - THIS CHAPTER WILL BE TOLD FROM 3RD PERSPECTIVE

Gengar watched in panic as the dark patches fully covered Cleffina's body, her tail and one of her ears fading into black smoke and her wings as sharp as knives. Her eyes were blood red and brutal, even more frightening than any Gengar's eyes could be. She went silent, simply laying in the pile of goo she had barfed up.

"C-Cleffina? C-Can you hear me?" Gengar said, stepping closer to where she lay.

She caught him off guard by instantly shooting up into a standing posture. She slowly limped towards him as he stood there, beads of sweat dripping from his face. She stopped when she was right in front of him, staring into his eyes.

"Gengar..." she said quietly, her voice sounding distorted and far away.

"W-What? What's wrong?" he asked, feeling himself shaking.

She stayed silent. They both stared at each other for a moment. Suddenly, she threw an attack at him, sending pain all over his body as he screamed, falling to the ground from impact. She pinned him down and started rapidly scratching and punching him in the face, quickly causing him to faint. She then got up and went to look for others.

She went through the forest, knocking out any Pokemon she spotted, going on a rampage. She even deathly hurt some of the more weak Pokemon, such as ripping off a Caterpie's head and impaling a Pidgeotto with a stick in mid-air. A lot of Pokemon quickly found out what was going on and went into hiding.

~Meanwhile, at the Gengar Group Cave...~

The group of Gengars and Haunters soon returned to the cave, finding Gengar still knocked out in the center. Ginger instantly ran over to him, leaning down and shaking him awake.

"Gengar, are you okay? W-Where did that Clefable go?" she asked with fear and concern in her eyes.

"N-No...I'm not okay...C-Cleffina...s-she's Shadow Tagged..." he whispered weakly, his ears lowered.

She gasped in terror. "W-We have to stop her!" Ginger exclaimed, getting up and turning to the rest of the group.

The group began to chatter amongst themselves. Some were worried about getting seriously hurt, others were aggravated that Cleffina managed to get away, and some didn't even care about the situation. They all came to an agreement that they would split up into small groups to hunt down Cleffina, making sure they were strong enough to fight her.

They quickly ran off in different directions to start looking for her. Gengar led Ginger and the rest of his group forward as he carefully followed what he knew were Cleffina's tracks. After a while of walking, they saw countless bodies of knocked-out Pokemon scattered everywhere. Some were buried in leaves and others were stuck dangling in trees, and some were even part of their whole group, but they knew they had to keep looking so they could end this massacre.

That's when Ginger heard something. "G-Guys...I hear screaming...w-we've gotta be close..." she whispered, stopping as still as a statue.

"I hear it too..." Gengar muttered, letting the rest of the group stop. "It's best we ready ourselves."

They all stood, thinking that they were prepared for any attack, however that was proven wrong. Suddenly, a spike shot at them from where the screams had been coming from, shooting right through a Haunter's head, causing black blood to spew from its face. Ginger gasped, stepping away from the Haunter as if it were some sort of roach. The other two Haunters immediately rushed to attack Cleffina, wanting revenge for their fallen comrade. However, they were instantly knocked out as well.

Ginger wanted to do what had to be done. "Let me try, Gengar," she said, her ears lowering.

"No," he said.

"W-What? Why not?" she asked, looking him in the eyes. "It's dangerous!"

"Exactly," he replied, looking at Cleffina. "I don't want to make the same mistake again. I am not going to lose anyone else."

With that, he stepped towards Cleffina, knowing what he had to do and hoping that it would be enough. She looked over at him and gave him a wide, terrifying smile. "I see you are ready to suffer your fate," she said, leaning to one side like a ragdoll.

"Not a chance...darling," he said, looking directly into her eyes. "You know this isn't you."

She laughed. "Oh, of course, this is me! Can't you see that this was the way I was meant to be?"

"No. You would never do this. I can tell that you are the nicest person I know. You're kind, caring, thoughtful, beautiful, and..." he paused.

He slowly started to walk toward her, knowing that he was risking his life just to get her back. He could see her getting ready to attack, but he didn't care anymore. He wanted Cleffina back. That's when he wrapped his arms around her, feeling the dark mist emitting from her fur.

"...the love of my life," he said, gripping her tight as he felt a tear forming in his eye...
