"Fate is like a strange, unpopular restaurant filled with odd little waiters who bring you things you never asked for and don't always like." ― Lemony Snicket
Hell would be easier to manage at this point and anyone working at the hospital would agree.
The nurse huffed, strutting down the hallways and halted as she checked the time. I think someone has to check up on them again.
Her feet started moving once more but not for long as she reached the counter top, leaning on it. "I-"
"There you go, they're growing antsy." A young man spoke and Alora cracked her back by leaning backwards.
The male nurse stemmed his chin on his intertwined fingers, blinking at the blue-haired while she fixed her ponytail. "Did you even eat in this shift yet? I think you're gonna drop dead in the next ten minutes."
Alora dropped her hands before rubbing her sleep-deprived eyes. "Then so be it, honestly – wait, I can't. I have to see Elementary's finale this Saturday. So maybe dying is on my calendar for next week." again she leaned on the counter and checked the notes, nodding.
The man opposite of her leaned back in his chair, rearranging his locks. "Don't you dare watch that without me. Last time I was devastated."
"Elgan, I promise, I was just curious, okay?" Alora chuckled and wiggled the clipboard in her hands while she left Elgan's side, walking towards the break room.
"So...Family Yang?" Alora looked around and blinked as at least ten people stood up. A gorgeous, middle-aged woman walked up to her first, her eyes swollen. "Yes, yes, we're here, how is my father?!"
Alora exhaled, she always hated breaking down the news. "I'm so sorry...the car crash was severe and we're handling multiple victims at the same time. The surgeons have to take another two hours for Mister Li."
She fiddled with what Alora supposed was her wedding ring. "Two hours...so we can like, go home, fetch things and come back here, in two hours?"
Alora looked around the big and affluent Chinese family, nodding. "Yes, of course. If you come back, please let us know, alright? Just come by my colleague around the corner again and say you're back."
The woman nodded, holding back tears and thanked Alora quietly. The tall nurse watched them leave but she sighed shortly, looking back at her notes. Now this was going to be a harder story to tell. "Family Smith?"

For the umpteenth time this day Alora disinfected her hands and ran up and down the operating room, finally a colleague of hers came out into the small room between the operating room and the open corridor. Alora watched the surgeon pulling off the scrub, she could even make her out sighing although the nurse couldn't hear her, just by studying how her lips moved. Okay – now she's cursing.
