Harry

Tuesday went by way too slow. The classes in the morning felt like an eternity, the only thing that made it endurable was Zayn with which Harry luckily had most subjects. But nothing with Liam. In fact, that's probably why it felt so long. Last year the two had almost everything together, but this time they were left with only two classes.

"You'll survive a few hours without him, you know", Zayn joked as Harry had finished complaining.

"You don't get it"

"Yeah you're right, I don't. I'd go nuts if any of my siblings was to spend 24/7 with me"

"It's a twin thing", Harry sighed and checked his phone as it had vibrated in his back pocket. Sam had texted into their team's group chat that practice was going to start half an hour earlier due to the 'captains' meeting.

Normally the last captain and co-captain would choose their replacements, but at the end of the last season, there was great disagreement about who should take over. Their coach, therefore, decided to take a vote on it in the next year.

The people in question? Harry and Liam, but also Sam and Luke were very keen on getting the position. This afternoon seemingly would finally settle the dispute.

Harry smiled a little as he put his phone away again and walked towards his last class with Zayn before lunch break. He was sure the team would vote for him and his brother, why wouldn't they? It was painfully obvious that the two were made for it. They understood another without words, had been playing for long enough to lead the practices themselves, and with all modesty, Liam and him were the heart of the team.

"All I'm saying is that it wouldn't hurt you to be a bit more independent of him"

"Whatever" Harry tried to give Zayn an annoyed look (it was a never-ending topic between the two friends) but he was way too excited for the meeting later to let this ruin the mood.

"Alright, boys. New year, new season!", Coach Simmens, a man in his mid-50s, decided to hold the team's meeting in an old conference room next to the lockers.

They already wore their uniforms: jerseys and socks in red, white short training shorts, shoes, gloves, and caps in black. Usually, they trained in normal sports clothing but at the beginning of the year, they wanted to make a good impression on the new students. Once the rally was over, their uniforms would be stored back deep into their lockers until their first game.
They were sitting on a U-shaped table formation, their Coach, himself dressed in sweatpants and a shirt in the same colours, was standing at the opening.

"Before we get to business I'd like to remind everyone that our win from last year is no reason to not give a 110% during this season. For most of you, this will be your last year in high school, if you wanna make good impressions for your future college, you better not be missing a single practice"

The team currently held 13 players, six of which were graduating at the end of the year. Harry really hoped to find some real talent this year among the new students. They needed it.

"But, I think you all already know this. So, let's get to the reason why we're meeting up so early: the new captains", Coach Simmens eyes wandered over them "we're gonna vote via a show of hands for each candidate, the two with the most votes get the position"

They nodded slowly. That was easy.

"To make this a little more organized I considered everyone who had shown interest in these positions and made a pre-selection. We'll be voting between Luke, Sam, Michael, and Liam"

Harry frowned as their Coach, as he assumed, took a short moment to let everything sink in and then add his name, but that didn't happen. Instead, Simmens leaned onto one of the leftover tables behind him, while the team exchanged a few words with one another. How could've Simmens forgotten about him?
