Madness. The day had devolved into sheer insanity, and Sage was left on the skywalk with Leo. Piper and Jason were taking a nose-dive towards death, and Coach Hedge had been dragged into the clouds.
Her eyes were misty as the sounds of her friend's screams serenaded her. A chorus of shrieks and rain sang out, with the occasional note of rumbling thunder. Sage took a shaky breath, exhaustion coursing through her bones. Even as she moved towards Leo, her hands trembled from lack of warmth and any sense of hope she had evaded her.
The shouts from Piper faded as she fell further, until they were simply no more. Sage closed her eyes tightly, trying not to think about them hitting the ground. Her chest was tight, and the back of her throat seared mercilessly. Sage swallowed harshly, before she kneeled beside Leo's curled up form.
His small frame was soaked, shivering and covered in shiny monster dust. Sage gingerly moved a strand of wet hair from her face, tucking it behind her ear. Why had Coach Hedge told Jason to save Piper? Why had he listened?
She wanted to break down right then and there. A whirlwind of memories warred on in her mind, picturing the day her father had died. The thing that killed him had been anything but human, a strange concoction of man and beast. Just like Dylan, and the other 'storm spirits' as Jason had called them.
Before she could even get her head on straight again, she placed a hand on Leo's shoulder. The storm was beginning to petter out, though remnants of thunder and lightning remained. "Leo," she whispered, because she didn't think her voice would remain strong if she tried to speak normally.
She could see the way his chest rose and fell, raggedly, but steadily. She shook him a bit harder, and cleared her throat gravely. "Leo," she repeated, more loudly this time, which seemed to stir him.
"Ugly... goat," he grumbled, almost incoherently. Sage furrowed her eyebrows, assuming he was talking about Coach Hedge.
The sound of footsteps racing across the skywalk made Sage jump ever so slightly. She tossed a look over her shoulder, half expecting Dylan to have returned.Sage's eyes went wide, and her tensed shoulders slacked in absolute shock. It wasn't Dylan, nor any of monster, it was Jason and Piper. Her mind was hazy, like rolling fog from a bonfire had drifted into her head. She couldn't compute how they were alive, or how they'd gotten back up on the skywalk. "How- what-" she stuttered, shaking her head as they ran forward before stooping beside Leo as well. "You aren't dead!" She finally exclaimed, with a jagged voice.
"Yeah, so it turns out Jason can fly," Piper said casually, though Sage could see the way she shuddered as she spoke. There was also a slight quiver in her voice, but Sage chalked that up to the near death experience.
"Stupid... ugly... goat," Leo muttered, his eyes opening a sliver. Little rays of light began to creep out from behind the clouds, glinting across his golden doused face.
Piper's stare lingered of Sage for longer than the brunette liked. Especially because her pursed lips, and narrowed eyes made it seem like Sage was a tough math problem Piper had to solve. "Where did he go?" Piper asked while turning back to Leo.
He rose his arm and pointed straight towards the sky. "He never came down," Leo croaked hoarsely. "Please tell me he didn't actually save my life," he said miserably.
"Twice," Jason said.
A groan like tires across a dirt road left Leo. "What happened? The tornado guy, the gold sword, Sage's eyes... I hit my head. That's it, right? I'm hallucinating?"
Sage's nostrils flared as he mentioned her eyes, again. What caught her attention more though, was Jason getting up and walking towards the sword. It had been flung away in the fight, though Sage wasn't sure when. The sun glared off the golden blade as Jason picked it up.
