Chapter 4: Who I Really Am
It was a beautiful place that I had never been to before. Streets were made of bright gold, and every building gleamed in the starlight. It was day, but the stars still shone brightly. It felt like a naïve dream from a kindergarteners coloring page. But in the north was a palace hidden by a dark shadow. Suddenly, everything swirled around me, and I was inside the palace. A king sat on his throne, his queen standing by his side. Nobles and other people with swords and other weaponry stood in the room. I was very confused. I was asking a warrior with long dark hair where I was and what was going on. Everyone was dressed in fine dresses and armor, but when I looked down, I was wearing my same jeans and jacket. My mouth moved, but my voice was mute. Suddenly, the sound of chain clanking on the limestone floor made me jump. In chains, a man was being dragged toward the king. He wore green and black, his long, dark hair was shiny with sweat, and an malicious scowl was all he gave the king. The king spoke words that I couldn't hear, but then he pointed towards a beautiful woman with flowing blond hair. She let out a piercing scream and I cupped my hands over my ears, not only because it was loud, but it was one full of pain and agony, and it made me want to burst into tears. She held her baby close to her chest and cried, but then, out of nowhere, Thor was there? Why? What did he have to do here?
A guard tore the baby out of her arms and handed him or her to Thor. The Queen ran over and brushed her hand over that babies head, then lovingly kissed it. Then they were gone, everything was. All I could see was bright white nothingness. All I could hear were the mother's wailing cry.
I woke up with a start, and sat straight up. Here I was, back on the helicarrier, panting and alive, but not in a castle. I heard the familiar drone of the propellers and the constant tapping of feet. Agents here were hardly ever off duty. My room here was like a small closet, and my bed was more like an ambulance stretcher, but at least it was near a window. Outside, it was early morning, orange streams of sunlight peeking just above the clouds. I pushed myself out of bed and changed out of my pajamas, which had mysteriously appeared in my room last night, and into a fresh pair of jeans and a shirt. I slipped on the navy jacket I wore yesterday, and the tracker bracelet was still inside. I didn't put it on.
I still had managed to hide Victoria's phone and 57 cents in what I called my 'secret' pocket. It was just a well hidden inside pocket in my jacket. Looking to my left, I noticed Natasha was gone. As I walked out down the hall, I stuffed the coins back in my pocket and kept my head low. Few agents here knew my name, but they all knew who I was, which bothered me. They might nod politely in my direction or say hello, one guy even gave me a high five (he was weird), but they all knew why I was here, and I didn't.
Finding my way to the communications center, I stood to the side while all the agents walked in and out of their posts, changing shifts for quick water breaks and cat naps. If New York City was the city that never sleeps, then this helicarrier was the equivalent.
"Sima," A voice called to me. Agent Hill. I stepped over, feeling slightly guilty for hiding. "Why are you up so early ?"
"Don't know," I answered, "I couldn't sleep. Where's Agent Romanoff?" Looking around, I noticed that Tony and Steve were gone also.
"They had to pick up a prisoner in Germany." She replied, her eyes never ceasing to leave the screen in front of her. Whatever she was doing, it was important.
"Germany? Where are we?" I couldn't believe that we were over Germany.
"Right now? Over Ukraine." I left Agent Hill to her work and wandered down the halls again. I had the freedom to go most places, but some doors required a special password, or even a fingerprint. I passed the lab on the way. Bruce was alone inside, working on more science stuff.
