Chapter 6: Not Without A Fight
"Ow! Ow, ow, ow,! Holy sunshine." I was lying on the hard ground of god knows what. It was night time, the stars glistened above and the lights of a city illuminated the sky. My head throbbed painfully, and I had no idea where I was. Hopefully Manhattan. The summer night was cool and relaxed, and nothing had changed since I left. I had been around the world within three days and yet this massive city was exactly the same. Car horns blared impatiently, restaurants released controversial into the air, and people still walked around at ungodly hours of the day. Maybe this was every city in the world, but the busy vibe of New York City was strictly unique.
I started towards the closest street, and realized I had ended up where I started. "Stark" was lit in the night sky. For now, this was a dangerous area for me to be in. I entered the closest metro station, and hopped on a train headed south. I was alone in the train car for half the trip down Manhattan Island. At 2:17, two businessmen joined me, but they kept their distance and sat at the other end. At 2:25, on Broadway and Lafayette, another group entered the car, this time a man and a woman. My experience on the trains of Manhattan served me well. You know a true New Yorker by the way they ride the subway. Head down, hood up, don't talk, don't make eye contact. Make it seem like your sleeping.
I was at my destination, but I knew something was up by then. Maybe they thought I couldn't see them, but I knew the "business" men and woman were following me. I started to ready my powers, although I might as well hold up a neon yellow sign that says, "loki's daughter".
If only I had noticed the fifth person. He was two feet behind me, and I suddenly felt the urge to duck. His Icer bullet shot above my head. I kicked him in the stomach and broke into a run. the woman from the subway cut me off at the club. In this fight, my 4'6" height was to the advantage. She swung her leg to kick me in the head but I was able to throw myself back. I went back to kick her, but she parried my blow and we both took a step away.
"You with SHIELD? Because I'm not going with you without a fight. Tell Fury he and his team better keep their eyes on Loki, not me!"
"Those aren't my orders, Lokisdottir. Stand down, or I'll make you."
The other four men were coming up quick, and I had to escape. In the back of the alleyway, a fire escape gave me an idea. I lunged for it and leaped for the first handle. I converted my levitation power to help me up. Pull-ups were never my kind of thing.
"Get her, Luciya!" The first guy yelled.
"Working on it, Gray." I felt the escape rattle as she pulled herself up, but I didn't look back, just kept climbing. By the time I reached the roof, my calves were aching. Luciya was closing in on me. I heard the cock of a gun and I slowly, carefully walked backwards.
I held my hands out. "You don't want to do this." I told her.
"My mission was to bring you back to Fury. I intend to finish it," She tossed her hair, completely comfortable. "Hands on your head, don't move." I complied, slowly raising my arms and placing them on my head. Wincing as my heel hit the short barrier between the roof and falling twenty-five stories. She gestured for two of the men to handcuff me. They rushed forward, but I pushed myself off the edge of roof before they could.
Luciya screamed, but all I could do was fall and let gravity do its wonders.
Then I was running again. Heather's apartment was close, and I now it because I breathed in the familiar scent of Chinese food. Chinatown. Recently, Heather had moved here with her boyfriend of four years. I skidded to a stop in front of her building, the tan brick building towering over me. My arms were brushed and my back was sore, but no one was following me. I pressed the doorbell and practically fell asleep on in.
The door flew open and there was Heather, as perfect as ever, in her pajamas.
"Sim, what are you doing here? Why do look like you just fell out of the sky?"
"I-I did." I said. Heather pulled me into a warm hug and held me tight. She was so safe, and felt like home. I couldn't see him, but I heard Takashi's footsteps on the tile floor. My eyelids felt heavy and I was having trouble keeping them open. The last thing I remember seeing was the worried, confused faces of Heather and Takashi.
