Chapter 5: The Good Side Tries to Kill Me

I was in deep, deep trouble right now. Falling off the helicarrier would be a better idea than the mess I was in. Natasha nodded towards my fading blue hand.

"Marker accident?"

"Would you believe me if I said 'yes'?" I asked. She shook her head. "Guess you have to tell me why I'm really here. Whoops?"

Natasha shook her head. "Nope, that's Fury's call. Not mine." I rushed to keep up with her.

"Who was that guy? Or rather, what was he? Is he who you're fighting against? Are you really an assassin-" She held her hand over my mouth to get me shut up. I hadn't meant to be so excited, I was just curious.

"Fury? She knows..."She was talking to absolutely no one and if I had enough nerve, I would have told her how ridiculous she looked. "You really think that's a good idea?...That's true...copy." I tried not to laugh when she looked at me. By now, it was almost time for lunch. I hoped that was where she was taking me, although I didn't need an escort.

"Where are you taking me? Another thirty-second monitoring session with the Prince of Asgard?" Natasha rolled her eyes at me

"You're all sarcasm and no brains aren't you?"

"No, just too much sarcasm." I was dragged unwillingly into Fury's office. The only person other than him was Thor. An interesting choice, considering Thor had recently called him 'petty' and 'tiny'. Who the heck even says 'petty' anymore? "What did I do this time?" Of course, I knew what he was going to say. It was almost as if I was getting used to being interrogated every other hour.

Director Fury folded his hands on his desk. "I could punish you for listening in on a certain conversation, or going into a confiscated room," I was the one to roll my eyes this time. I would hardly call that a conversation.

"Me? You'd punish me? As I recall, Stark was poking Dr. Banner, then Stark and Steve Rogers just up and start a fight in a lab, you pull a gun on Banner, and then he goes and knocks off a vial of blood that made my skin turn blue. I'm not the only troublemaker on the ship! Mister Thunder-pants over here called us all petty and tiny!" Natasha was laughing at my argument so hard, she had to leave the room. It wasn't until night that I realized "Mister Thunder-pants" was a completely logical term.

"This isn't about that!" Fury stopped me before I upturned the faults of his heroes.

"Oh," I looked and my hands. They were normal now.

"This is about Loki," I stared at him. Was he being serious now? "Like actual Thor's brother, son of Laufey, I-have-a-eight-legged-horse-for-offspring Loki?"

Fury pointed his pen at me. "Exactly. Not sure about that last part...moving on. You're Loki's daughter."

"Wait, what?" I blinked. Loki's daughter, Like actual Thor's neice, daughter of Loki, I-have-an-eight-legged-horse-for-a-brother...Me? But this wasn't how I wanted it to be, not this, not here, not now. The forgotton offspring of a maniacal god who had threats to destroy the world. This was the reason foreverything. I pressed my hands to my head. This information was giving me a headache. This was why everyone was wary of me at first, why I was chased down.

"This-this...You lied to me, and chased me down, tore me out of my home and from my family, and kept me on a flying base, only to tell me I'm the daughter of a blood-thirsty god? There's more, isn't there?" I moved my eyes from Fury to Thor, watching their every expression. Natasha was gone, thank god. I couldn't let her see me cry. "I'm just your pathetic ransom piece. What if your wrong? What if Loki won't surrender for me? What happens then? You'll just dispose of me like a ripped cloth."

"Hel, you need to calm down." Thor ordered.

"That's not my name! All of this underlying clandestine and games of secret are over. I'm done." I slammed the tracker bracelet on his desk. "This is your's." Maybe I was being a complete jerk at that point but I didn't care. They had used me. I was just another piece of work to them, to brainwash into believing their lies. Now I felt worthless and this exciting power was no longer a gift. My own father called me a monster, but at least he was being truthful. I was a pathetic teleporting monster with blue skin.

But I was free. Now I knew, everyone knew. They knew I was to be feared from the beginning and now I knew why. Because I was dangerous.

My feet had found their way back to Loki's cell. This time, I wasn't afraid. I was depressed, heartbroken, and utterly excited. My hands pressed against the cool glass and my breath formed condensation. "What can I do?" I asked. Loki looked up, almost surprised to see me.

"Your terrible and scary and evil but I don't care. What was this curse I inherited?" I opened the glass door enough for me to step inside. I felt dauntless and unstoppable.

"Hela-"

"Don't beat around the bush! Answer my question!"

"It's a gift, Hela. Do not allow those people infest you mind with lies. Along with abilities like transportation, levitation, you have the power to claim souls, and to kill a mortal with the touch of your hand. The dead listens to you. You are their leader," I shook my head, not believing him. Me? The power to kill someone with the touch of the hand? That was more of Natasha's forte. They wanted me to kill. They wanted me to take the life of someone else. That was taking someone else property. My knees failed to hold my body up, and I fell to the ground. No matter how hard I tried to push them back, hot tears escaped from my eyes. I felt helpless, used, and a danger to everyone around me. I could kill. I could kill.

I ran my hands through my hair, short as it was. They were shaking. I had to get away from here, from everywhere, away from people. I didn't want to hurt them, and even thought this power belonged to me, I felt of control. My back tensed as a hand rubbed my shoulders, comforting me. This is wrong. This is so, so wrong. Then I had an idea.

Outside, I heard voices.

"We know she's too much of a threat now. We have no choice."

"She's a child. She can't control them."

"That's why she's dangerous. Nellon, Lagrow. Get her." The door opened and two agents walked in, Natasha and Fury behind them. They all looked solemn and I knew what they were here to do.

Agent Lagrow whipped out his handgun, pointed at me. Air caught in my throat, and I was so scared I started to hyperventilate. I backed away from him, and looked at Loki for guidance. Eventually my back hit the wall.

"Hela, run!" Loki commanded.

"I-I can't. I can't move. I'm too scared."

Natasha stepped forward, right hand hovering over the holster of her own pistol. "Sima, you said you wanted to choose the good side. Now step forward before I have to hurt you." I didn't keep my eyes off Loki. At least I could trust him, the only person who hadn't lied to me so far.

"I didn't think the good side would kill me," I said quietly. The cage was starting to vibrate. Before I could take another breath, I heard a gunshot blast through the air. Then I vanished.
