Chapter 10: Tripping Into Action
"It's happening! Get Fury on!" I never had a chance to get their names, before they left. They whole building, the whole city, was in a panicked state of confusion. I raced to the window and gasped as a gaping hole in the sky was slowly spreading.
My mother grabbed my arm before I could even think of going outside. "Go to the basement! Now!"
Heather, Misty, and Reesa were already following Dad downstairs, and due to my mother's prodding, hurried after them. I had a change of heart as I looked through the lobby's glass door. I saw the wreckage of the building that blew up. There were people inside, women, children, men, dogs, cats, fish, lord knows what else. This was my father's fault, I was partly him, and therefore, this was partly my fault. Bolting for the outdoors, I heard the cries of my sisters, my family, but I didn't look back at them. I only kept running, running, running until I realized how tired I was and started tripping over loose pieces of asphalt.
Stupid! I was so stupid! I could be teleporting. Putting a mental note on kicking myself later, I started jumping shadow to shadow, so fast, the policemen and women barely had time to see me.
A hand gripped my arm.
"Get away from me you moron-" I started to scream, but it was a police officer, he pushed me into a crowded building of people. I pushed through the mass of bodies, alive thankfully, towards a window. Creatures on flying machines tore through the sky, destroying everything in their path. The wind was picking up, trees bended as it whipped past. If no one helped, there would be nothing left of the city. I pushed my hair back into a pony tail. It was hardly long enough to stay up, but at least it wouldn't be in my face. I pulled on the door, but it wouldn't budge more than an inch. A man pulled me away from the door roughly.
"Are you crazy? You'll get yourself killed!"
"I don't care! Help me out!" No one bothered to help me, but I was useless without their help. I needed help, but the streets were empty at this point. Then, I remembered something Loki said. The dead listen to you. Could that be possible? I looked at my hands, then clenched them together, concentrating. Like a weight was tied to them, I felt power surge through my body, and tried to raise my hands. I was surprised at the amount of effort it took. My muscles were aching, before I saw the results. He must have recently died, but the police officer that had pushed my inside stumbled over, his uniform bloodied and torn. I pounded on the door.
"Let me out!" I commanded and he pushed away the debris that had kept it from opening. I rushed out, and he fell to the ground.
I heard a rumbling after a minute off shadow-jumping and looked back. A huge, metallic worm was flying through the sky. Tony was right in front of it, playing a game of tag. In the distance, I could see Steve, Natasha, and Clint. I surprised them, jumping out from a shadow behind a tumbled over taxi.
"Miss me?" I chimed in as Natasha muttered, "I don't see how that's a party."
"Hela?" Clint wondered. I had never seen him before, but I overheard Natasha talking about him.
"Hela, what are you doing here?'
"Good Lord! It's been twenty four hours and you already forgot my name? Sima! S-I-M-A!"I muttered, more to myself than anyone else. I gritted my teeth as the monster things came at us. "What are these things?" Then a voice whispered, Chitauri. Loki. I was on the verge of seething, he was the reason for all of this death and demolition, and I legitimately wanted to kill him. Stick a knife down his throat. Something. My feet had their own mind, and started trekking north, to Stark Tower, as if they knew where he was, then running, running like the wind. My heart was heavy, and I felt something I couldn't describe.
