Out of reflex, you jumped to the side and hid behind a structure that seemed to be some sort of boiler.

The warm scent of glue and something rotten mixed into something that felt poisonous to breath.

You pressed a hand onto your mouth.

A dizzy feeling crawled into your head. It felt like a burning parasite was eating into your head, gnawing at your brain and waiting until the last bit of clear mind had melted away.

You staggered back, fleeing from the footsteps that were approaching.

There were at least four people, you thought, and dared to take a look outside.

The slender figure of a woman appeared. She was dressed in a strange way, too rich for the undercity and yet too messy for Piltover.

Feathers hugged her crooked shoulders like the wreath of a bird while her nose was covered with a mechanism with green liquid running through its tubes. She looked old, but that didn't have to mean anything.

Maybe she was only twenty, but marked by the bad air and the chemicals that made the water almost undrinkable.

Next to her walked a young boy. His face resembled hers, but he did not have the calmness that lay dormant in his mother's eyes. Instead, there was that hateful grin, that cruelty that only a child could have.

The sight of him sent shivers down your spine.

Suddenly he stopped, paused in screaming and demanding his will. His head jerked to the side and all at once his eyes were on you.

Surprised, you jumped back.

But he did not react. Not a single word left his lips.

When he turned around again you wondered if he had seen you and ignored it or if you were still undiscovered.

Slowly you crawled around the cauldrons, in the direction of the door. It hadn't sounded like the way was closed again. With luck, you could disappear without being noticed.

As carefully as you could, you walked on, keeping your head low and your hood pulled over your face. Your heart was beating wildly when you had to jump out of the shadows to get to the other side of the cave.

A ringing spread in your ears. It felt like a bad premonition.

When you reached the tunnel to the exit, your body was so tense that you thought you couldn't breathe. The air burned in your lungs. You briefly turned around, away from the people, to see how far away the door was, and a shiver crawled down your spine.

Startled, a tiny scream left your lips.

"Huh?", with his arms folded in front of his tattooed chest, a man was looking at you. "Who are you?"

His jaw was forged from shining brass.

The metal sparkled whenever he spoke. The way he looked down at you suggested he was more amused than angered by your presence. His poisonous green eyes moved back up into the air.

"Renni!", he called as if he were calling for a dog. "You have a visitor."

The woman's head jerked around, her eyes wide with surprise.

"Ah, shit...", you cursed with narrowed eyes and rose.

There was no point in resisting, you wouldn't have survived a fight. At least not against Renni and the stranger together. In addition, the two men from before were still there.

They must have been good actors, because their faces showed the same astonishment as the others.

Immediately, the taller one rushed over and grabbed your arm so tightly that a sharp pain shot through your shoulder.

"Asshole.", you growled and gave him a deadly look. "How smoothly our bargain went..."

With lips pressed together, he shook his head. The feel of a sharp blade pressed against your spine through the layers of fabric of your clothing. It was obvious that from this point on he could no longer be neutral to me.

If you dared to say a word, he would be dead as well. Of course, he couldn't let that happen.

"Did you bring a spy, Finn?", with a skeptical look, the woman named Renni approached.

Up close, her appearance seemed even more strange, a bit like a crow that had been crossed with a human.

The scent of Piltover perfume rose to your nose.

Lavender, mixed with lilac. It was actually a pleasant scent, but the amount was enough to give you a headache.

The man named Finn shook his head behind you and stepped to Renni's side to get a better look at your face.

His eyes narrowed.

"I know you.", he said, tilting his head. "You're... no... somewhere I've seen your face before."

As your eyes roamed over him you remembered.

Finn had once stayed at your hospital when he was injured in a gang fight. That had been the cause of his new jaw. You had stayed away from him as much as possible, but every now and then you had to change his bandages.

Most of the time, however, he had been under the influence of strong medication and had not realized anything.

"You still owe me one.", you said to him.

He frowned.

"Do I?"

"Yeah."

"What for?"

"Your jaw."

All at once, realization lit up in his bright eyes.

"Ah...", his hand rubbed over the shiny metal that covered half of his face. "Now I remember. You own the shimmer junkie hospital. What do they call you again?"

"Samaritan?", Renni raised her eyebrows in surprise. "I've heard a lot about you. Some rumours say Silco wants to get rid of you."

You had to laugh bitterly.

"One could say that.", you raised your chin to give the two a mischievous grin. "However, times change. Let me go and I won't cause you any more problems."

"Ha!", with a harsh movement Renni grabbed the strap that hung around your shoulder and yanked the bag to take a look. "You don't think I'd let a thief go, do you?"

Demonstratively she emptied everything on the floor. In the process, some of the jars broke and the contents scattered on the dirty floor.

"Fucking hell...", you mumbled. "He needed that..."
