Hesitantly you stood in front of the door, chewing on your lips, not knowing what to prepare for.

There were no rumors about Silco's good moods, only about how in a fit of rage he had stabbed one of his most powerful allies in the leg. Or another rumour that confirmed he liked to use children as leverage.

But these cruelties were nothing new, you had already been used to them before he had payed you a visit and asked for a medicine.

But this was a completely new situation.

You knocked, more quietly and hesitantly than you usually did. Secretly you hoped that he would not hear the noise and you could leave again.

But it didn't take a moment before footsteps sounded and the door opened.

Jinx's blue hair popped out. Briefly her eyes wandered over your boots, which were so similar to Silco's, and grinned at you.

"You look better in those clothes.", her expression was innocent, but the way she said it told that she had planned this to happen. "Silco is already waiting."

She stepped aside to reveal his desk.

Silco was absorbed in his work, eyes wandering over lines of ink as he held his head. He looked calm, almost relaxed. His usually tense shoulders were hanging down loose, and even his forehead was not tense.

But the sight of his face surprised you.

With a clearing of your throat, you let him know you were there and stepped into the room.

His gaze did not raise but he did a gesture to signal that the visit did not bother him.

"Samaritan.", his voice sounded indifferent, but there was a hint of joy. "I hope the night was not too loud? Sevika will take care of the mess."

You did not respond to his question. Instead, your eyes narrowed.

When you leaned down to him, he responded for the first time. His gaze twitched upward briefly, but he didn't pay much attention to you. Only when your fingers slid under his chin could you see in his eyes that he was puzzled.

Without saying a word, you gently forced him to look at you, letting your gaze wander over the scarred areas.

His lips moved, but Silco did not dare to say a word either. He was smart enough to know that you were looking at him with the eyes of a doctor. But even if his lips remained firmly shut he could not prevent a shiver from running down his spine.

At the feeling of your touch, he had to take a sharp breath.

But you did not notice the physical tension that this closeness caused in him. Your attention was focused on his scars.

"They have become lighter.", you murmured, waiting for him to answer.

Silco cleared his throat. He freed himself from your grip, his gaze jumping over to Jinx, then back to you.

Immediately you understood.

"Jinxie?", with a wave of your hand you asked her to come closer. "Can you do me a favour?"

At the request, her eyes lit up immediately. Excitedly, she came closer, but you intercepted her before she was within Silco's hearing range. Bending down to her, you gave her a smile and pulled some money out of your pocket.

"Can you count?", you asked.

She nodded.

"I can do a little calculating, too.", she announced proudly.

"That's good. Do me a favor and go to the market, will you? I need something very special. You know the moss that glows in the dark?"

"The cooks always use it for seasoning."

"That's what I'm talking about. I need a whole handful of that. And then medicine, very simple, painkillers, herbs from Piltover and a little yellow powder. It has a very particular shade of yellow and smells like salt mixed with black powder."

Her eyebrows rose at the description. Excited, Jinx jumped on the spot.

"I know that one!", she said. "I use it for my toys, too."

"Then I don't have to worry. Take this and don't get ripped off. Pay only what you think is fair."

Nodding, she grabbed the bag and rushed to the door. But before she could disappear, you call her back.

"And Jinx?"

"Yes?"

"If there's any money left over, buy yourself something to eat."

Hesitantly, she looked at Silco.

His eyebrows rose.

"Something other than candy, too.", he allowed, nodding toward the door to tell her she could go.

A mild smile lay on his face, but as soon as the door slammed back into the lock, the expression disappeared.

His eyes jumped back to you.

"Why are you sending her out to buy things?", he asked. "I told you I'd take care of everything."

Sighing, you nodded and turned back to him, resting your hands on the edge of the table.

Now the two of you were directly opposite each other, separated only by the table.

"I wanted to distract her.", you said, tilting your head to look at his face again. "Please remove the makeup. I need to look at the scars."

His eyebrows rose in surprise. His fingers twitched, he stroked over the spot as if he had to check if everything was still as it should be. But to his astonishment, he found that nothing was rubbing off.

"How did you notice?", he asked. "The texture is still the same, I checked it myself in the mirror this morning."

You nodded.

"It's deceptively good.", you admitted. "But skin doesn't magically change color."

"It could have been your shimmer."

"As much as my ego would want that, it would be very unlikely. You said the pain in your eye is gone, not that your cheek tingles."

"What would a tingling in my cheek have to do with changing skin color?"

"Medicine is only as good as its effects. When it works one can usually tell by three things, something feels different, something looks different or something has changed so much that it can't be ignored. After the treatment, the pain went away and your eyesight improved. If the scar was affected, then you should have felt something yesterday."

With his mouth slightly open, Silco nodded and couldn't help but huff in an amused way.

"How smart you are...", he mumbled. "How enjoyable."
