Sighing, you looked around the room. Everything was a fucking mess. Silco and his giant ogre woman, Sevika, had messed the place up real bad.

Everything was torn apart, papers flying around everywhere and some pieces were probably missing.

But in the end you couldn't care less as long as the shimmer was still where it was supposed to be.

"Fuck you, Silco...", you mumbled and kneeled on the floor to check the box. "Well... at least everything is still there..."

Wiping some dust from the top, you put the code in and turned the key. With a soft click the box opened and revealed everything.

You leaned against the hard surface of your desk and let out a deep sigh.

All at once, realisation hit you.

You had a deal with Silco.

A deal that was as appealing as a rope around your neck.

Now, you had to provide him with something, anything, that would please his expectations. As long as you'd manage that the hospital would be finde.

"Samaritan!", the voice of a child cried out.

Struck by surprise, you flinched and almost dropped the box. Hastily, you smashed the lid back shut.

"Tov!", you gasped, sliding the box back under the floor and hid it. "I told you to wait. Where are the others?"

With a grin on his small face, Tov looked up at you. As his little hand stretched out, he held a bag full of candy.

"Jinx's dad told us we could go back.", he looked around the office but did not seem very interested. "He was really nice. Jinx invited us over."

"No! I- absolutely not... Jinx can come here. But don't go and visit her dad."

"Why not?"

"He's... a busy man."

"He's the eye of Zaun."

Biting your lips, you squeezed your eyes shut and suppressed a curse.

You had tried to keep them away from the negative influences of Zaun, but maybe Silco was a man that couldn't be avoided. After all, he was Zaun.

Every inch of this hellhole was his playground and every person that was trapped within.

"Yes...", you pressed out. "That's one big reason why not to disturb him."

Tilting his head, Tov eyed you.

"I don't get it...", he mumbled, shoving some candy into his mouth. "Is he mean?"

You sighed and couldn't help but roll your eyes. It was no use to argue against childish innocence. He wouldn't get it anyways. All you could do was try your best to keep Silco out of your business. And away from your kids.

"It's... fine.", you pet his head. "Now tell me where the others are. I want to check up on them."

The kids were fine, but kind of too thrilled for the events that just had happened. They were running around, talking about how cool Jinx dad was and were Ah hill shoving the candy into their mouths that Jinx had handed out to them.

Sighing, you took a look at the soldi sugar balls. The wrapping was surprisingly high quality, plastic nonetheless, but colourful and good enough to not burn a chemical stench into the food.

"Kiddos.", you said in a loud voice to get them to calm down. "It's bedtime. No more candy."

Gasping in disappointment, the kids dropped into their bunk beds.

"Do we have to give back the candy?", a girl asked, gifting you the biggest and brightest puppy eyes a kid could make.

Grinning, you shook your head and started to tug each kid in, as you always did.

"Promise you won't eat it.", you said and looked at her with a serious gaze. "Safe it for tomorrow."

She nodded.

"Promise!"

"And the others?"

With big smiles on their small faces, the kids nodded and assured in a choir that they would not dare touch anything before the crack of dawn.

Smiling softly, you retreated to the door. You knew exactly what this promise meant. They would wait all night and purge the candy and wake up early so they could say they already ate everything before breakfast.

It was a tactic that you usually did not tolerate, but today had been a special line of events and you did not want them to take any damage from it. If candy at night would safe them from realising the ugly truth then so be it.

"Now be good.", you whispered and turned off the lights. "Don't let the bed bugs bite."

A heavy sigh left your lips as you pulled the door shut. Your forehead fell against the cold wood, sending a shiver down your spine.

"Fucking hell...", you cursed and let your back fall against the hard surface. "Almost..."

This time it had been so close.

So fucking close.

But you did not have time to fall into the pit of self pity. Steps reached your ears.

"Samaritan?", Maria's head appeared in the dim light.

Frowning you jumped up and wrapped your hand around her neck.

"Where have you been?", you hissed in a threatening way. "I was looking for you."

With her hands raised, she looked at you. Her breath was trembling. She swallowed thickly.

You could feel the movement of her throat pressing against your palm. Sweat wetted your fingers. Disgusted by her body's reaction mixed with her strange behaviour, you pulled a face.

"A word, Maria.", you had to force yourself not to scream at her before there was a chance to defend herself. "I'm getting sceptical about you."

Squeezing her eyes shut, she turned her head as if she already expected violence.

"I'm sorry!", she gasped, shaking. "I couldn't say no. He payed well."

"I don't give a fuck that he did so. Just tell me, do you work for Silco or not?"

After hesitating for a moment, she nodded.

"I had no choice!"

"Bullshit! I had a choice to be his minion and so did you."

"I'm not as powerful as you Samaritan. I don't have anything he would want from me. I have nothing to protect my life with."

"And I won't either when you steal from me. This is not just about me or the hospital. I'm protecting my kids. Now take your shit and leave. If I ever see you here again, I will be a lot less friendly. Understood?"
