I managed to find a good parking spot in a parking garage, having brought Kai'Sa to a familiar part of town. Leaving the garage, we were greeted by the scenery. It didn't matter how much time passed, the general atmosphere stayed the same. The merchandise and advertisements may be swapped out for fresher content but the formula of marketing is the same one that has worked for decades.Of course, the primary allure of the place was the 2D Girlfriend experience. Even if it's a blur, I can still kind of remember being an otaku during my elementary school years, being a huge geek with the small friend group I had at the time.
Being an idol producer, I had to produce the ideal 3D Girlfriend experience. However this added on its own layer of issues, forcing us to make the girls look 2D in both aesthetic and market. The goal was to keep up the front of a group of beautiful and diverse women who were every lonely man's wet dream and the envy of girls who are trying to do better.
Now though wasn't the time for my producer mindset, now was the time for the encouraging coach mindset. Walking around down the street, Kai'Sa remained close to me with her hands folded in front of her, her head looking around at the various stores.
"Anywhere you want to go in particular?" I ask her, stopping us for a moment so that we had some sense of direction.
"Hmm," She rubbed her chin in thought, "There's this store that I saw a few days ago but didn't have time to go inside. How about there?"
"Lead the way." And with that more walking ensued, arriving afterwards to a store known for selling pop culture merchandise and goods. It was filled with a lot of things, from clothing to posters, manga to anime on Blu-ray, to stuffed animals and figurines.
While Kai'Sa went off to go peruse the clothes, I browsed the figurines. Who would've thought that such ordinate pieces of plastics could cost so much? A gamble between price and quality, where something you buy could either be the greatest deal on earth or be ripped off like a sucker.
I was considering at one point in my life to start collecting these figurines for a hobby. But after finding out how much money I would need to fork, I promptly scrapped such an idea. Seriously the amount of money in order to build even a decent collection...I would need to sell BOTH kidneys for that.
Looking around for my companion, I saw her over in the manga section skimming through some of the books.
"Never took you for a girl who reads manga." I comment next to her, making her jump a bit and nearly drop the book. Seeing such a display brought a tiny smile to my face.
Clearing her throat she composed herself, "I took it up as a small hobby when I lived in Japan for a year. There were some good series that I enjoyed but I'm trying to find new ones."
"That so? Well I know a few good series that I could recommend for you if you'd like. By the way what's that one you're looking at?" I ask her and point to the one she's holding.
She would quietly hand it to me and turn back to the shelves to keep browsing, probably still a bit startled at me surprising her. Turning the front cover of the book I read the title, "My Own Worst Villain." The story on how a young man, tired of feeling alone and being alienated from others, tries to find solace in the comfort of others only to end up with a group of girls- oh for Christ's sake it's a harem read.
Putting it back on the shelf, I turned to see she now had a small stack of manga in her hands, looking up at me with a small goofy smile.
"Found some you like?" I asked, returning her smile and a bit of the enthusiasm.
"Yup!" She said as she flipped through them to confirm her selection.
"Come on then, I'll pay for them."
