"Producer, e-easy now...I don't show just anyone this. This stays between us..."
"Right, Ahri. I promise, nothing of this will get out to anyone..."
"Y-you better keep that promise. Gently now, too quickly and you'll slip..." A gentle sigh escaped her lips, her gulping afterwards. "I've never done this before yet...I feel relieved."
"I do too, in a way. Still need help..?"
"Yes please..."
With one final heave, we managed to finish fishing free the box of old keepsakes that Ahri had lodged deep within her walk-in closet. With a sigh of finality she wiped her brow and started fishing through the box, looking for something in particular.
I sat back down on her bed, opening the cap on a bottle of water and drinking it's contents. Ever since we got here we've been drinking water in regular intervals, sobering us up rather quickly.
But even with proper hydration, my body was still very much under the alluring control of alcohol and that sweet sweet bourbon. She lived alone as expected, in a one bedroom apartment. She was an avid decorator too, as her walls and shelves were decorated with pop culture posters, figurines and stacks of books and magazines.
"Found it!" She cheerfully exclaimed, pulling a thumb drive from the box and pushing it aside, walking to where I was sitting. Putting the drive into her laptop, she would begin to sift through its contents. "I knew I still had it after all this time, I just hope none of the files are corrupted."
"What exactly is it you're trying to show me, Ahri?" I ask her, peeking over her shoulder as she scrolled through a mountain of content. From pictures, to videos, to old word and pdf files. Among the pictures I noticed some of them were of Evelynn, rather a younger one as she wore sexy dresses and was on the covers of fashion magazines and such. "Huh, so that's what Eve looked like back then..."
"Most of these are from seven years ago when she was beginning her start in the modeling and fashion world, she was so aspirant then. She still is even now." A sad smile graced Ahri's face as she kept scrolling, likely thinking back to those times. Seven years...even if it's not a long time for some, a considerable amount of changes and happenings can occur in such a span. "Here, watch this."
The media player opened up on a video, showing a talk show interview. Evelynn sat among a group of women, all of them in beautiful outfits that accented their own individual looks, herself wearing a loose violet dress that shimmered in the light.
"For our latest segment tonight everyone, we have our latest rising model and daring diva, Evelynn! Tonight she is joined by her colleagues and is here to talk to us about her current and future plans!" The female hostess introduced the group, earning a round of applause and some vocal cheers from the audience for a moment before dying down. "So then, now that you've gotten a taste of some fanfare after your debut, how do you feel Evelynn? Are your colleagues treating you well?"
"Despite how it may seem, I'm delighted at all the attention I'm receiving. And while it's clear each of us are competitive, we are all adults who are sisters before rivals. Elise here in particular has been very welcoming of me joining Silk Touch Records." She motioned to a woman next to her who wore a dark black dress with miniature spider webs on it. I didn't know why but, seeing her made me feel uncomfortable, upset even.
"Despite being new, Evelynn has definitely had a noticeable impact on our team at Silk Touch, as she brings her own unique personality and ideas to the table, opening up new opportunities for all of us. Just like how we look up to each other, we've now all come to look up to her as well." Elise was one of the leading idols in the industry currently, heading out of the still running Silk Touch Records. It was a company who specialized not only in creating idols, but also in high quality designer clothing that it also dresses up their girls in. It is a marketing strategy that not only sells the people, but also adds value and vanity to those who want to look like them too.
