Corvus soared through the sky, diving down and swooping back up again.

He flew straight into the palace courtyard, doing a few rounds before finding an open window.

Flapping through the halls, he made his way to your room.

The door was shut, but not locked, so he jumped up and down on the handle till it creaked open.

He nestled in a pile of blankets and pillows.

"What's our next mission?" you asked.

You were walking through the courtyard.

Hunter had his mask on, whilst you didn't have yours with you.

"I've not spoken to Belos yet." he sighed.

"Not much of a morning person, then?"

"I wouldn't know. I barely see him if I'm not summoned." he shrugged.

You nodded, and continued walking.

You noticed a navy haired woman make her way over to you.

"y/n y/l/n. Emperor Belos requires your attendance in the throne room." she said.

She reminded you of someone... but you couldn't put your finger on who.

"Right, let's go. Shouldn't be mingling with witches of such a lowly status in the coven." Hunter said.

The woman's lip dipped. "Just her."

"Em, ok... I haven't met you before I don't think, your name?" you asked, trying to ignore Hunter's snide comment towards the woman.

"I'm Lilith." she replied.

You shook her hand. "Nice to meet you then, Lilith. But I guess I gotta go now."

You smiled and she returned it.

You turned on your heel and sped in the direction of the throne room.

You dropped by your room, grabbing your mask and cloak.

You found Corvus asleep by your pillow, and you nudged him awake with a finger.

He squawked in greeting and hopped onto your shoulder.

"Best not waste time, boss' looking for my attention." you whispered to him, closing the door behind you quietly.

You sped through the halls to the great double doors of his room.

You took a deep breath and pushed them open.

He stood imposingly.

"Ah, the Mage of Mischief. Or perhaps, The Raven Guard." he said, striding towards you.

"Belos, sir, you wanted to see me?" you replied, standing tall.

You felt Corvus shift from foot to foot on your shoulder.

"How was your mission?" he asked.

"Um, successful. The human uses glyphs to perform magic. Hexside has not condemned her education, despite the knowledge of her guardian and status." you explained, trying to sound professional.

He nodded. "I see. And your partner? Was he efficient?"

"H-the, um, Golden Guard? Yes. He's a brilliant, uh, leader."

"I see. What did you do about the mask situation, then?" he quizzed, leaning over you.

"O-oh. He didn't wear it..." you said, your hands shaking a bit.

"I see..."

"Y-yeah. Well, uh- um, am I... dismissed?" you stuttered.

"Your new mission." he began, ignoring your remark. "There is a criminal recently broken out of the prison, they are on the run and rumoured to be in the city."

"Yes sir."

He waved you away, and you almost sprinted out the door.

You crashed into Hunter.

"W-were you eavesdropping?!" you exclaimed, pushing him away roughly.

He went red. "Um, yeah... sorry."

You sighed.

"Well, new mission. Gotta catch a criminal." you said.

"Hey, why are you annoyed at me?"

You turned on your heel and whipped off your mask.

"You were a bit of a jerk to that witch, Lilith. That's why I'm annoyed." you sneered.

He took off his own mask, he looked slightly guilty.

"It just... came out."

"So that's how you treat others normally? As if they are scum? What the heck, dude?" you said, throwing your arms out for emphasis.

"It's not right, I know..." he frowned.

"So why do you do it? Why not treat everyone like you treat me? I'm inferior to you- am I not? I am your second in command, for Titan's sake!" you continued.

"Because nobody else is you!" he blurted, his eyes welling up.

Your heart stopped.

"You've known me for a week." you whispered.

"Yes. And in that week, all you've shown is optimism, and positivity- which is crazy, your life sucks!" he said, wiping his eyes.

"My life... sucks? No. You can't say that. You've had everything handed to you on a silver platter. I've had it hard, sure, but because I can accept this is what I have, I can make the most of it." you sneered, your eyes getting blurry too.

You continued. "I can ignore the fact that my food will run out, I can ignore the fact that my body is covered in scars, I can ignore the fact the only reason Belos hired me is because I'm better an ally than an enemy!"

You turned away, wiping the tears from your eyes.

"I didn't mean it like that..." he muttered between stifled cries.

Corvus flew onto his shoulder, pecking at his hair.

"C'mon." you sighed. "We've got a job to do."

You began walking along the hall.

Hunter caught up with you, averting his eyes as he walked.

"I'm sorry." he whispered.

You interlocked your fingers with his.

"I'm sorry too."
