Shock coursed through my rigid body, and pain pulsed through my arms. My head hurting from the impact. Elle whinnied and started bucking and galloping around the arena, the whites of her eyes showing.
A voice yelled into the arena "Is everybody alright in here?" I tried to say up but struggled. I collapsed back down onto the sand but managed to yell softly "No! I'm over here." The girl's hair whipped in the wind as she ran towards me. "Are you ok?" The girl asked, as she helped me into a sitting position. "I-I think so..." I said, sniffling some tears.
The girl checked out my arms. "There not broken, just bruises." I smiled a little bit. "Is my horse ok,?"
"Yeah, She was spooked by your fall. She's calmed down. My friend Nicole is holding her. "Thanks. I'm Eleanor and my horse is Elle." "I'm Paige and my friend over there is Nicole as I mentioned earlier."I waved and stood up while holding onto Paige's shoulder. I wiped the dirt of my jeans and went over to Nicole. "Thanks for grabbing her."
"No problem, She's a beauty. Is she pure thoroughbred? I've never seen a horse run so fast!" Nicole complimented. "Yep. Pure thoroughbred. Her mother and father were prize thoroughbreds in Kentucky for the races. She's 17.2 hands." I smiled proudly. Elle whinnied and shook her mane. Nicole laughed. "She's certainly full of herself." "No kidding" I chuckled.
Paige came over "Do you want to ride with Nicole and Me? Our horses are tacked up and they are over there in the corner." I smiled "sure. I'm new here! Are you guys?" Paige and Nicole nodded and turned around and got there horses.
We all mounted once again and spent two hours working on the dressage test. By time I got back to the dorm, I was dirty, sweaty and had made two new friends. I almost had the test memorized!
Brittany was on her laptop when I came out of the shower. "Hi Hi!" She said happily, while I rifled through my closet for some PJS. "Hey! How was your day?"
"Good! I spent it cooking and trying out new recipes with my friends." Brittany said. "That's good. I spent my riding. I took a fall when Elle jumped over an oxer, but then I made some new friends and we worked on the dressage test together." I smiled, getting on some blue sweatpants. I threw on a PINK nightshirt and put on some slippers.
The next day, I met up with Paige and Nicole and we worked on dressage some more until the test had been imprinted in our memory's. We then worked on flatwork, then some jumping and finally we went out on a cross-country trail to practice. We cooled our horses at about 6:30 pm and said our goodbyes after we had groomed and untracked our horses. We traded numbers and then left for our dorms. They were in blossom-well dorm hall, which was across from Winchester.
I went to my dorm and packed my school bag. Tomorrow was the first day of school. I had a couple classes with Brittnay, but shared all of my classes with Nicole, Paige and Windsor's resident mean-girls: Mariah, Maggie and Megan. They were often referred to as the triple-threat M's. Luckily, none of them except Mariah were riders.
Tomato was also testing day. I'm so nervous. It's rare for a student to make the advance team on the first try. I decided to go to bed early and I brushed my teeth. I braided my wet shower hair and took off my slippers. I slid into bed and said goodnight to Britney who was crawling into bed too.
I feel asleep quickly and my mind slipped into a dream of horses.
