End of A/N

Christmas Day. I woke up at 6:30 am and threw on some snowman patterned pj's. Christmas was the only exception for me to get up early - that and riding. On school days, I would often sleep in and be late for school... Oops! I slid down the huge stair case banister all the way downstairs. I ran past the kitchen and into the open living room.

I eyed the HUGE mountain of presents that were stacked neatly underneath the green, fresh Douglas fir Christmas tree. Red, White, Green and Silver wrapped presents jumped out at me, as I picked through the presents till I found the smallest present; one of the gifts that I gave my mom. I smiled and picked it up.

I placed it ontop of all the big presents, so she'd see it immediately. I glanced at the white China plate that held the crumbs of sugar cookies and glanced at the tall glass of milk that was left half-full. Santa usually wasn't a big fan of the milk we gave him; Mom liked to drink soy milk. I'm guessing he was a 2% guy.

I sat down on the plush leather couches and waited until I could hear the patter of Mom's feet on the carpeted stairs. She came down stairs wearing a fluffy yellow housecoat with some gray PJ pants on. "Good Morning Mom! Merry Christmas!" I exclaimed brightly. "

"Good morning sweetie! Merry Christmas Ellie-Bellie bear!" Mom said kindly as she stirred cream into her coffee. "Can we open the presents soon?" I asked childishly, while perched on the cream coloured leather arm of the couch. Mom giggled slightly. "Yes Hun. We can open our stockings as soon as I grab the video camera." She smiled slightly and sighed as she took a long sip of the steaming coffee.

After she grabbed the video camera, we both spilled the contents of our stockings into the floor. "Yes! New EOS lip balm!" I shouted happily, first bumping the air. Mom laughed and shouted the same. "Yes! A dairy milk chocolate bar!" She fist bumped the air and we collapsed into giggles.

After our stockings, I handed mom the tiny wrapped present. She smiled and began to hum my kindergarten Christmas musical theme song "The best things come in small packages"!
She delicately unwrapped the present and opened up the black velvet box. Inside was my father's wedding band. I had got it from the doctors. My mom had thought it had been cremated with him.

"Oh!" A hand flew to her mouth, a smile turning the corners of her mouth upwards. "Oh, well, It's his. How did you ever get this?" "It's a secret but I'll tell you anyways. The doctor gave it to me when I got to see Dad at the hospital after his death. He told you they were going to cremate it, due to his will." I smiled softly, as mom slipped the gold wedding band on her small, delicate ring finger.

Mom hugged me tightly as she placed the ring back in the box. Mom handed me a small, rectangular box. I ripped open the silver wrapping paper, and my heart stopped as soon I saw the Snow White box. To confirm my suspicions, I looked at the side of the box. There, it neat font were the words: iPhone 6. I grinned and tore off the rest of the wrapping paper. I took of the lid of the box, and grinned when I saw the gold iPhone 6. I compared its size to my cracked-screen iPhone 3GS. I threw my arms around mom. "Thanks a lot Mom! The 3GS was getting very outdated." I said.

Mom smiled "no need. I coordinated it with all the rest of your gifts." I put the box on the coffee table and handed Mom a big rectangular box. "I wonder what it could be." Mom smiled slightly. She opened the gift and grinned when she saw I had gotten her a refurbished gold MacBook laptop. "How did you afford this?" Mom asked, shocked. "Well Brittnay's dad works at Apple and got me a great deal!" I replied happily.

Mom smiled and put it aside. We quickly went through the rest of the presents, a pile of wrapping paper behind us. I got a new leather purse, a case for my phone, beats earbuds, a purple TNA hoodie, TNA leggings, new ariat tall black leather riding boots, a new comforter, gift cards, a new fly sheet for Elle, a new gold coloured saddle pad and finally, a black leather butet dressage saddle.

Mom got: dad's wedding band, a laptop, a new phone (from my Aunt Hadley), gift cards and finally some Starbucks coupons. After I threw out the wrapping paper, I went upstairs and changed into a black sparkly tulle skirt with a silver sparkle shirt. I put on black tights and slipped on some black flats. Presentable, I made my way out of the bedroom and downstairs to help Mom cook Christmas Dinner.

I basted the turkey and made sure to leave some stuffing aside to stuff the turkey with. I stuffed it and placed it in the oven to cook. I helped Mom wash the veggies and I also peeled the potatoes. After finishing that, I set up my iPhone 6. My dad was really good with technology, so I learned a lot from him. My dad was the head accountant at the local bank. He was a really geeky dude, knowing a lot about technology and he was great with numbers.

Just before I dinner, I called Brittnay's cellphone to wish her a merry Christmas. She didn't answer so I left a message. I sighed, and left my new phone upstairs charging and went downstairs for dinner. All of our relatives lived in either Oregon or California, so it was usually just us three having Christmas dinner together. Now, it was just two of us. How sad is that? I sat down beside mom and we didn't bother praying as we weren't religious. I chewed on a piece of Turkey before blurting out "Mom, do you think you'll ever remarry?" She dropped her turkey leg, shocked. "To be honest sweetie, No I probably won't , as then I wouldn't feel loyal to Dad anymore." I was happy with her response, relived that I was not going to have a step-dad, or step-siblings. "Good." I breathed a sigh of relief.

We ate the rest of dinner in peaceful silence, occasionally making tidbits of conversation between ourselves. After dinner, Mom and I did the ample amount of dishes. I sat on the couch reading a book, while mom browsed on her new laptop. Mom's screech ruined the silence. "Eleanor! Get over here" she screeched, excitedly. I quickly jogged over there and read the email she was pointing at. My mom was still subscribed to Windsor's Preparatory email list. I scanned it and the last scentence jumped out at me.

"Due to the loss of one it's students, Windsor Preparatory is now accepting applications to apply for this school."
