(Kylie's POV)
Between the fits of sleep and the music and the staring out the window and the reading, the nurse was right, the day did pass fast.I sat there in my bed, having barely moved at all for the past day, reading, when my nurse walked in with a smile.
"Good morning, Kylie!" She said, unusually cheerfully. I reached for my pad.
Good morning, nurse! I scribbled out. You're happy today. Is there a special occasion?
The nurse took a moment to read what I had written before another dreamy smile enveloped her face.
"Yes, my family is coming down from the north next week! It got finalised last evening, and now I can't wait!"
The nurse exclaimed happily.
That's so cool! They must be really fun.
The nurse nodded with vigour.
"They are! I'm so excited!"
I smiled again.
"Anyways, I'm here to work, not go crazy. Would you like to clean up? Or do you think you're still not up for it?"
I'm up for it! Please, please! I need to get out of this bed!!!! It's going to be the death of me! Also my mouth tastes horrible. I desperately need to clean up.
The nurse chuckled at my frantic expression.
"Okay, okay. Let's go."
I scrambled onto my feet, but then everything began to spin really, really fast, and I tumbled into the nurse.
"Woah, there!" She caught and steadied me. "You've lost a lot of blood, and I don't think it's all been replaced yet. So, we're gonna go slow, okay?"
I nodded, not feeling very happy, but I obliged.
"Good." She nodded, looking satisfied.
Then slow step, by slow step, by slow step, she led me to my door and then out into the great wide halls of the hospital.
~~~~~~
I plopped down happily on my bed, feeling extraordinarily clean and comfortable.
The nurse- who's name I learnt was Ophelia- smiled at me from her place at my bed side.
"Now, since you're all clean and shiny, we're going to do a few tests to see how quickly your recovery is preogressing. So, I'm just going to need you to make a fist for me, okay?"
I made a fist for the nurse and she patted down my arm, before sticking in a syringe at my elbow, and taking out some blood.
I gave Ophelia a confused look.
"Oh, this is to make sure the blood isn't reacting badly to your system."
I nodded, understanding only slightly what she meant. She then proceeded to re-attach my IV lines, and then took my temperature.
"So far, so good. There's currently nothing to worry about. Now, I have to go give your blood in for testing, and check your throat."
She made me open my mouth, and then shone a torch down it, and then she stuck this soft cotton swab into my mouth, and danced it impossibly lightly across my throat.
She pulled it back out soaked in blood.
"Well, that's not good."
What do you mean? I asked.
"Your throat hasn't stopped bleeding, yet. Which explains why you were dizzy earlier. You're still losing a lot of blood you can't afford to."
My mouth formed an 'o'.
"Anyways, we'll figure it out. For now, just kick back and relax. And in a few hours, we can let your family come up."
My eyes widened.
Wait, seriously?!
"Mhmm." The nurse nodded, while she packaged my cotton swab.
Yay!
"Well, it's not going to be a yay if you don't get any rest. Remember, I'm in charge of deciding whether you're fit enough to see them."
Oh no! It won't come to that!
I lay back down in bed and pulled my covers up and carefully as I could, without messing with my IV tubes.
Ophelia nodded satisfied, turned the air conditioner to a comfortable temperature, said bye, and left.
My eyes didn't stay awake for long after that, in fact they fluttered shut almost immediately, gracing my sight with darkness, yet again.
