XiChen allowed his gaze to fall over both the Sect Leader and his Lady. They seemed more than surprised at his words, but he supposed that was expected. He was known to be rather mild mannered. He supposed that they thought that he was not going to argue and just hand Wei WuXian over, agreeing that the proposal was ludicrous and he should end it whilst he could. He wanted to scream at their audacity. He did not, but he would remain this polite smile as he continued to stare at them, not wanting to really say much more, allowing them to digest what he had said. His smile remained rather fixed, but it was not as though they would know the difference.

"You...pushed for this union?" Madam Yu questioned, a small scoff in her words. XiChen gave a small hum and a slight nod. He took in Madam Yu, slowly, noting her obvious disbelief of what he was saying. He could not quite understand it, considering he had been quite clear with his words and intention. He did not lie, either, so her questioning his statements were rather confusing to him. The Lan were well known for being honest to a fault. It was a thing that had been with their sect for generations, and was partially the reason their influence was so strong. If the Lan approved, or disapproved, it was obvious.

"Of course," XiChen said simply, his smile becoming slightly strained. "That is what I said, I do believe." He gave a small hum once more as he glanced towards the Sect Leader, who was doing nothing to attempt to control his wife. He did not say anything regarding it, but if this was how things were ran at the Lotus Pier...There was clearly a reason why Wei WuXian was so badly treated, and this was making it obvious. "Wangji wished the union, I spoke with Wei WuXian regarding the matter, he was quite agreeable," XiChen tilted his head to the side slightly, assessing them. "I do not understand who it is that is thinking that this union is...not agreeable. Or why it is thought that I would disapprove, when I am the one who pushed for it in the first place."

"We understand, of course," Jiang Feingman, it was the first time that he said anything really, and he was wise to simply agree. Refusing a union like this...it was not wise for the Jiang Clan, particularly considering the past. XiChen had no illusions that Wei WuXian would do the precise same as his mother and father before him and defect from the sect if necessary to have this union with his brother, in fact, Wei Wuxian had stated just as such himself with no remorse. Whilst he was certain that Wei WuXian may miss the Jiang Sect, as was normal despite his conditions with living there, at least for a time, XiChen also knew that he cared for Wangji quite a lot, Wangji as well cared deeply for Wangji. Most of the elders were more than aware of what could happen to a Lan who was seperated from their love, and it was not pretty, his father was a prime example.

"We...We Understand?" Madam Yu began to seethe, XiChen could see it in her eyes, she was about to start something that really should be avoided. Perhaps he should interfere...but he figured that it was not his fight, and he would rather sit back and see the dynamic before him. It would help him handle Wei WuXian, understanding a bit of how his so called guardians acted before people, and undoubtedly when they were alone as well. It would give him some first class insight, so that he would be able to at least try and figure out what they should generally avoid, even if it was not entirely accurate.

It was not as though XiChen could just ask Wei WuXian these sorts of things. For one, the other probably did not even know in the first place. XiChen knew emotional repression when he saw it, and though it was shown the opposite way that his younger brother repressed his emotions, it was the same concept. A facade of joy and happiness to hide the pain and uncertainty underneath. For two, just asking could likely trigger something XiChen definitely did not want. As such, he merely observed these two, as Madam Yu seemed to get more pale in her anger, a red accent to her cheeks.

"You...You dare to allow..."

"My Lady, there is nothing that we can do with this matter, it is best to simply allow it."

"Allow it!" Madam Yu's voice shouted over the the hills and XiChen actually had to repress a flinch. He stared with slightly widened eyes at it would seem that the Lady of the Jiang sect was readying to spiral down into a total argumentive breakdown with her husband.

"Forgive me, Madam Yu, Sect Leader Jiang, but if you do wish to continue arguing, perhaps it would be best to do so inside the town, otherwise please try and keep your voice at a lower level. There are some that would be disturbed should you continue going on like this." XiChen remained his pleasant demeanor, but inside he was practically wild eyed. He could not believe that the Lady was so willing to start and instigate an argument in front of a fellow Sect Leader, to her husband, just because of her dislike of Wei WuXian being married off and out of the sect. Given her clear discontent with the boy, it would make sense more that she was glad he was leaving, instead she was irate.

The inconsistency was quite startling. If she disliked Wei WuXian so much, she should not be arguing against this union as it would get Wei WuXian out of the Lotus Pier. He really was stunned at the weird mindset that she had. His rebuke had, by some unknown force, got both to look at him, although Madam Yu did not seem any calmer than before, in fact, she looked more agitated than before, but she held her tongue, knowing at least that arguing against a Sect Leader that was not her husband was a bad idea. As for the Sect Leader in question, he looked haggard, at best.

"Sect Leader Lan, perhaps you can excuse us. If we may come tomorrow, and have a more level conversation over what is to be done?" XiChen narrowed his eyes slightly, but nodded once.

"Of course, come at dawn, I shall have some time before the customary breakfast hour."
