Huaisang had heard rumors that Wei Ying's family had done the same, but it was rather shocking to hear that it was true. After all, Rumors were a lot of things, and typically there was some kernel of truth in them, but it was not usually fully true. "I thought that was a rumor spread by the Jiangs?" Hausaing questioned, a bit curious, and really wanting to learn more. More importantly, though, Huaisang saw Wei Ying's light return to his eyes. It was a relieving sight. He did not want Wangji to return and see Wei Ying upset. That would do no good for him being able to keep in contact with him. Everyone saw how protective the Lan brother was with him. Which made sense, they were getting married.
"Oh, no definitely not. From what I can gather, Jiang Fengmian was in love with my mother, but she was in love with my dad, and since it was causing some issues, they had seceded from the Jiangs. It was sort of a scandal. I am not too sure what happened to the Jiang sect after that, all I know is that my father was Head Disciple and then decided to leave. I will say that a head disciple leaving is definitely not ideal. Now they are having two, and for the same reasons." Wei Ying laughed lightly. Huaisang felt a bit confused, though, at the words. Difficult? For a Head Disciple to leave? It really should not be.
Now Huaisang knew that being the Head Disciple was a big job, but it certainly should not decimate the sect if the Head Disciple falls ill, or leaves the sect. That would just be unreasonable. Something was going on, and he needed to get to the bottom of it. Perhaps the Jiangs did a lot more than the obvious mistreatment. The thought sent a shiver down his spine, and he knew for sure that once he figured this out, if it was true, he would definitely need to speak with WangjiXiong and First Young Master Lan about it. there was no way that he, alone, would be able to do anything, but perhaps if he got the Sect Leaders involved of the Lan and Nie? Oh, the Jiangs would regret their petty meddling. Huaisang had always hated those who took advantage of the weak and vulnerable. It was becoming more and more clear that the Jiangs took Wei WuXian in, not out of the goodness of their hearts, but to use him, and it broke his heart further and further the more he uncovered.
"Wei-Xiong, I hope you don't think less of me when I ask, but what exactly did you do as a Head Disciple? It seems like a very important job." Wei Ying hummed, sipping his own tea that they had finally delivered. Huaisang loved these little cafes on the riverside, but sometimes the time you waited for simple things could be a bit too much for him really. Still, the tea was quite good. Jasmine is what Huaisang had ordered. He liked the taste of it, and even though his brother balked at the sweetness, he liked it, and Huaisang liked a lot of things that his brother did not, and disliked a lot of things that his brother did. Their constant fights over his cultivation being one of many points of major contention.
"Well, the Head Disciple usually teaches, obviously, draws the lesson plans for the days, schedules, and heads night hunts and similar things, It just is a lot of work, and it isn't easy to prepare someone else to deal with such a major role."
"You are the one that schedules the nighthunts? And heads them?" Perhaps that was normal, but Huaisang knew for a fact that it was his brother that did that, not his Head Disciple. He would have to ask Wangji if this is normal in the Lan clan, because he had a distinct feeling it was not. For a teenager to be handling night hunting schedules for the clan disciples did not feel...correct. It did not really make sense. Lesson plans, well to an extent he could understand, but full lessons? Including classes? That did not make sense. He knew the classes among the Lan clan were fixed, and the most their Head Disciple did is choose who went to what classes.
Perhaps he should talk to the Jin heir instead. His brother and Xichen were extremely close, so it may be that his brother took a lot of the things that XiChen did in the way the sect was run. Perhaps there was something else he was looking for, Huaisang was not sure, but he was certain that the Jiang sect was overworking Wei Ying and making it sound like it was just normal duties. he would have to figure out how to get the Jin heir to talk to him...but Huaisang was also an Heir, though perhaps he was not taken so seriously as the others.
One thing was certain, Wei ying could not know. Not until Huaisang figured out if it was truly as bad as he was suspecting. He had a feeling that if Wangji found out too, things would escalate. So, he would keep it from both of them. Go directly to the Leaders, his brother and XiChen, and then he would talk to the Jin heir. He knew he could figure it out himself, and then once he had all the information, then he would go to the Lans. He would ask the Lans last. That way if it was all the same, he could bring it up to XiChen at the same time.
