I took my time getting to Josie's place, failing miserably to get my emotions in check. I'd just have to tell her the truth, the whole truth.
She greeted me with a kiss and a hug before we got comfy in the living room. Her reading glasses sat atop her head, along with a messy bun of hair. "So what's up babe, like you've been so distant with me lately." She tilted her head to the side, tucking her legs underneath herself. "JoJo it's only been like twenty-four hours since we were last together, I'd hardly call that distant." I said, trying to rationalize the situation. "Yeah okay, come on we can talk about this in the car, I'm starving." I shook my head, getting up to follow her.
Twenty minutes later we ended up in the drive-thru at Popeyes Chicken and Biscuits, her fat ass. I sighed, that was my baby, though. She placed our orders and we sat, laughing and joking. Unintentionally getting away from the conversation at hand earlier. Rae Sremmurd's 'Throw Sum Mo' came on the radio and Josie twerked in her seat, laughing loudly. I let out a nervous chuckle, this song reminded me of the night at the club, the one I still have to tell her about.
Her phone pinged with a text on the way back to her house. I really wanted to be nosy as I trained my head to look out the passenger window. Her whole demeanor changed, I could feel it. It seemed as if we sped the whole way back, I was starting to feel like something was off, way off.
Once inside we both washed our hands and sat at the table to eat. I reached across the table, squeezing her hand gently, "Are you okay?" I asked. She looked up with a small smile, "We'll talk later on. Do you work tomorrow?" I thought about which job I worked tomorrow, it was Montreaux's. "Yeah, I'm scheduled a few hours at the diner. Why, got something planned?" She shook her head no and began to eat.
We were supposed to be having a discussion, but honestly I was enjoying us not talking, until my world started to crumble right before me. "Come here, I wanna show you something." She said, pulling out her phone. I lay beside her on the bed as she unlocked the phone, my head on her shoulder. She was pulling up her pictures and stopped on one in particular before handing it over to me.
"Why did you keep this from me?" Her voice was calm, I looked up at her. "How did you-" I couldn't finish before she cut me off. "The question isn't how I got it, I want to know why you felt you had to hide from me?!" She was out of the bed and on her feet so fast, it almost made my head spin.
I couldn't fight the onslaught of tears coming. Just when I was about to confide in her, this shit happens. Who would hate me enough to snap a picture of me at the club and send it to Josie? My tears turned to anger when the answer smacked me in the face. It was Diamond, that's who! But why were they still speaking? I'd sure as hell find out.
