Unexpected Love

Chapter 4

I walk into the crowded lunch hall. There all people around, talking, buying lunch, hanging out, it's chaotic. Although I'm used to much more chaos. Where I came from people were always dancing or singing, doing something artistic. Obviously because it was an arts school. I try to scan through the mess of people when I feel a tap on my shoulder. It's Gwen. "Thank goodness. I didn't think I'd be able to find you." She laughs and starts leading me to a table full of different people. There's a blonde bigger dude who is sitting next to a redhead. There was a blonde girl and a black girl, both talking to each other. Gwen leads me up to the table and sits down, motioning for me to do the same. "Guys, this is Courtney." I wave shyly and they all smile at me. "I'm Bridgette." The blonde one says and smiles. "Leshawna." The black girl says. "I'm Izzy and this is Izzy's boyfriend, Owen." I looked at Gwen for guidance on why this girl was talking in 3rd person or why she was being....strange. Gwen just shook her head as in, don't ask.

I was eating my salad in peace, laughing at the funny story Owen was saying when suddenly a raven haired girl and a blonde came up to me. "Hey new girl." It sounded like she was trying to hard to be sweet. I ignore her. "What is she deaf?" She says to Gwen. "No. I only answer to my name and "new girl" isn't it." I interject. The girls eyes narrow and I can tell that she thinks the world revolves around her and nobody is telling her otherwise. "Well. Just what is your name?" I roll my eyes. "Courtney."
She smiles fakely. "I just wanted to let you know I'm Heather and that I own this school and I'm queen here. Which means you follow my rules." By now everyone is staring and it's quiet. Any movement before has stopped. I don't know who she thinks she is but I'm about to lay it down for her. "I don't know who you think you are but last time I checked this was a democracy and also a free country. Doubt you know what that means since your trying to rule over everybody here. But not me. Listen Heather, I appreciate your introduction but I will not be one of your pawns. But nice meeting you." I go back to my lunch. Everybody around me starts cheering and Heather walks away steaming.

"That was awesome!!!!" Gwen cheers and I smile. "You know the only reason she approached you is because she's jealous....." Leshawna states, eating her fries. Everybody nods and I look at them confused. "Why would she be jealous of me...." Everybody looks at me incredulously. "Are you kidding? You are so gorgeous! Seriously!" Bridgette says. Gwen nods. "Looks like you already have some crushers." She points to a table where a bunch of geeks are sitting, staring intently at me. Too bad that guy I saw earlier didn't notice......
