I stumble into my 2nd period late, because I couldn't find the right room, just as the teacher calls my names. "Courtney Manns." I raise my hand, catching my breath. "I'm here! Sorry I was late, I'm new and-" The teacher, Ms.Marin, apparently just gives me an exasperated look and I drone out. I look around and see the only spot open next to some girl with teal highlights, who looks pissed to be here. Same.

I sit down and start to zone out as Ms.Marin starts going over the syllabus. "Where you from?" The girl scares me by speaking so suddenly and I jump slightly. She chuckles. I smile, partly of embarrassment and partly because I'm laughing at myself for being so jumpy. "Oh. New York." The girls face brightens up so I'm guessing she lived there before or wants to. "I've always wanted to live there. To become a New York Artist." I smile at her. "Totally. There was a ton of art down there." She smiles at me. "Gwen." I put out my hand. "Courtney. Probably already knew that." She nodded.

Just then a guy with dark hair and green eyes passes by. Gwen starts blushing hard. I lean towards her. "Do you like him?" She seems shocked that I asked this but soon nods. "Is it that obvious?" I shake my head. "No. I just could tell." Just then the bell rings. Before I walk out, Gwen catches up with me. "You should sit with me and my friends at lunch....I mean, if you don't already have somewhere else....." For a brief moment I think about Katie....I shudder. "Nope. I would love to."
