Mrs. Patel gestured for me to take a seat that's on the other side of the desk. She took a sip of her coffee and sighed (very loudly, I must add) as she sat down.
"Miss Hart." She began. "Do you know why you're here?"
No, Mrs. Patel. I have no idea why I'm here! Was it the rat poisoning I accidentally dropped into the cafeteria food, or was it that slap?
"Miss Hart, you're an honors student and I hear you're kind to others. Are these classes too difficult for you? Do you need to take a step back?"
Nope. I just tend to hate people sometimes.
"No." I answered.
"Then what could possibly drive you to slap a fellow student? A new student, for that matter."
Honestly, who wouldn't slap Mason if he said something like that to them? I can't be sure what anyone else would do, but I will absolutely not be silent if someone makes fun of me.
"I really hate to do this, Miss Hart, but you're going to have to take a detention today. 3 o'clock." Mrs. Patel said as she writes in her notepad.
I think I just lost brain cells.
"Detention? At 3:00?" I stood up. "Mrs. Patel, I can't go to detention today of all days. I'm visiting my grandma after school. I haven't seen her in 8 months."
"That's too bad. I'm sorry."
She doesn't seem very sorry.
I scoffed. I should've slapped Mason harder.

Shortly after, Mrs. Patel called my mom about the news. I prepared myself for her wrath.
Why did you get in trouble, Maia? I hope you didn't do something stupid. What, did you set off the fire alarm or something? It's all because of that phone! Baba is going to be so disappointed that you're not there! Did you ever think of that? Think before you act, Maia!
That's probably what she would tell me. I just kind of know at this point.
I really wanted to see Baba today, though. That was going to be the highlight of my day. Well, besides the sunrise. I guess someone decided to take two highlights from me.
I slowly climbed my way down the stairs. I dragged my backpack against each step. I didn't even care about how dirty it was getting. I hate school anyways.
When I arrived at the first floor, someone tapped my shoulder.
"Did you get in trouble?" they whispered.
I turned around to see Mason standing behind me. With that pesky smirk on his face.
Grabbing the backpack strap, I swung at his arm, hitting him in the biceps.
"Ow!" he massaged the arm that I hit. "What'd you do that for?"
"Yes, Sherlock, I got in trouble! Mrs. Patel decided to give me detention," I shouted. "And because of you, I can't go visit my grandma."
"It's not my fault that you decided to slap me out of nowhere!"
I snickered. "Is your head broken? Not too long ago, you thought it was a good idea to mock someone for wanting to become something. Do you even realize how ignorant that is? I'd say that's a pretty good reason to slap you."
"Please. You're taking things the wrong way. I just think that you should improve your acting skills just a tiny bit. Nothing personal." He winked.
Wow, he even winked. How conceited of him.
