I drove home fidgeting with my necklace. I naturally found myself doing it.
Usually when I fidget with something, it's either because I'm anxious or I'm ecstatic. And quite honestly, I'm feeling both right now.
When I got home, I practically danced my way to the front door. And I opened my door to see my mom talking to Mr. Herbert.
Mr. Herbert- wait, Mr. Herbert??
Why is he here?
I let my jaw drop slightly. "Mr. Herbert! Why are you- "
"Maia!" Mom snapped. "Is that how you greet your vice principal?"
Mr. Herbert laughed. "Oh, don't worry, Mrs. Hart. It's good to see you, Miss Hart."
I chucked nervously. "Oh, yeah, nice to... to see you, too."
It was so random for Mr. Herbert to come visit my mom. If a vice principal had something to say to a parent, then wouldn't they call them? They wouldn't physically show up to their house just to say something that would probably last for 5 seconds.
Mr. Herbert checked his watch. "Oh. I think I've chatted way more than I should've. Thank you for your time, Mrs. Hart."
'Chatted way more than I should've'?? How long was he here for?
Mom escorted him to the front door. "Drive safe."
He waved goodbye to me. "See you at school, Maia!"
I awkwardly waved my hand as he left. I immediately set my focus onto Mom after.
"Mom, why was Mr. Herbert here? Did I do something bad?" I crossed my arms.
I don't think I did something bad, but sometimes I question it.
"N- yes! Yes, you did! You did something terrible!" she flailed her arms. "You did something atrocious! You did something so bad that Mr. Herbert had to walk with his two feet to get here! Not literally walk but... you get the gist!"
I stared at her with a puzzled look. Well, dang. I must've done something really bad then.
"W-well, okay. What did I do?" I stammered.
She huffed. "God, Maia. I'm... I'm disappointed in you. So disappointed. So disappointed."
I blinked. What did I do??
"Mom, I- "
"Go to your room. Just go to your room." She turned away. "I can't even look at you anymore."
"Mom, I don't know exactly what I did but... I'm sorry for whatever I did." I fidgeted with my necklace.
"No!" she pointed a finger at me. "No... don't be sorry. Just go to your room for now, Maia. And Yukina is at a friend's house, just so you know."
Yukina should've been here.
I left Mom with her thoughts and closed the door behind me once I entered my room.
I'm confused.
Like tremendously confused.
First of all, my mom accused me of doing something awful at school, and then she told me to not be sorry about it.
No experienced parent would tell their children to not be sorry about something unless if they actually didn't do anything wrong.
So does that mean she knew I didn't do anything wrong?
Second of all, why was Mr. Herbert at my home?
He could've just given Mom a call if it had something to do with me.
