"Mason, I'm not going to lie, I'm quite nervous." I said, holding the phone next to my ear with one hand while the other is holding a basket of fruit.

"Oh, relax, Maia. You'll be okay."

I took a deep breath as I stared at Mason's house. For some reason, I thought it would be a great idea to meet his grandfather today. Mason wanted to introduce me to him, even though we had already met because of that torturous day at detention.

The front door opened, and I saw Mason waving at me when he saw me. "Hi."

I scoffed as I cut the call. I took a step forward.

"I bought some apples," I held up the basket. "Didn't you say your grandfather likes apples?"

"Ooh," he looked inside the basket. "They look good. Do you want to come in so that you can give them to Grandpa?"

I took another deep breath. "Yes."

The moment I stepped inside the house, I heard a blaring voice.

"Mason!" It was a deep voice. "You got an email from Vanderbilt! Your dream college!"

Vanderbilt?

"Uh-uh... hold on!" Mason nervously laughed. "I can explain, Maia."

I furrowed my eyebrows. Explain what?

"What do you mean? You got an email from a college!"

Did he get accepted to one of the top colleges in Tennessee?

"I- well, but- Maia-" He stammered.

I lightly pushed him towards the living room where his grandfather is at. "Mason, go read the email!"

His grandfather held out the computer in front of him so that all three of us can see. I wonder if that meant that he accepts me as Mason's girlfriend. Maybe it was just a coincidence.

Mason cleared his throat and put his hand on the mouse. He took a deep breath.

My heart was beating like crazy.

"Okay. Here goes," He clicked.

It's loading...

I widened my eyes.

Holy smokes.

"You... you-!" I began.

"You got in!!" The elderly man shouted as he clapped.

I rolled my eyes. I was going to say that.

"I got in!!" Mason jumped up and down. I laughed as Mason hugged me and lifted me up.

The moment he put me down, I made eye contact with the elderly man.

And boy, was it something.

His eyes were widened, and his jaw was dropped.

His eyes keep darting from me to Mason. Oh God. Say something.

Mason eventually realized what he had just done, and immediately put his arms by his side. He scratched his head.

"Um, so, Grandpa. This is Maia," He gestured towards me. "She's my... girlfriend."

His grandfather pulled his upper lip upwards. "I can... see that."

Mason and I looked at each other from the corners of our eyes. I closed my eyes shut in shame.

"Grandpa," Mason began after a silence. "Are you... okay with us dating?"

He nodded with the same facial expression. "Yes."
