I had a lot to process. Mr. Toro had a wife. And she seems really sweet and kind. I was seeing Mikey again. And he had a girlfriend? I couldn't help but feel pained. Mikey made a promise to me when we were younger. The day before I left. But I guess he forgot.
"So I've never really put together a get together like this before so I just decided to order pizza. Is that okay with everyone?" Gerard tells us to which we all agreed. Nobody seemed to have any accommodations so the order was easy.
"So Riley. How long have you known Mikey?" I look over at Jess who's piercing dark blue eyes were baring into mine. "He and I grew up together until I turned eight. When I had to move away." I say with a small smile. She clings onto Mikey's arm before speaking again. "I've only known him for a year now but I'm so happy I met him. He was so depressed before I met him. Because of you. I guess I relit up his life since you were never here!" I could see Mikey match my expression. Shocked as he looked down at her. The room fell into an uncomfortable silence before the others started up their conversations again.
"So how have you been?" I glance back over to the other side of the couch at Mikey and smile. "I've been pretty good actually. School's been alright and we've been steady on money." He smiles and nods. "And how about you? How have you been since I left?" He smiles but I can see a hint of sadness in his eyes. "I've been alright. I've been working hard and managed to get a good place not to far from here. I got a job at a music store. Which pays surprisingly well." He says with a chuckle. One moment he was laughing and the next he was looking at me dead in they eyes with a sad and pained expression. "You never called me." I look up at him and everyone else around me.
I could see Gerard focusing intently on me and Mikey's girlfriend Jess staring at him. "Mikey I-" "I use to sit beside my phone for hours. Through the day and night. Waiting for your call." I could see he was beginning to get more and more upset. I take a deep breath and use my eyes to motion to the stairs as well as everyone else who was watching us. He looks around before looking back at me and nods. I stand up from my spot beside Frank and he pulls himself out of Jess's arms and follows behind me. I saw the annoyed expression on her face and I couldn't help but smirk. I've only talked to her a few times and I already can determine I don't like her. I lead Mikey up the stairs into the main living room where he doesn't even sit down before speaking again. "Why Riley. Why did you never call me?! I waited for you! Don't get me wrong I am ecstatic to see you again but I'm also angry!" I run my hand through my hair before speaking again. "I couldn't call you Mikey! Raelyn and I didn't have enough money to afford a phone or the money to spare on a payphone! I kept your phone number locked in a box. And by the time we were able to get a landline when I was thirteen I tried calling the number you gave me and all I got was a dial tone and a message said. 'The number you dialed is no longer in service.' I tried Mikey. I fucking tried!" I feel tears form in my eyes but I force myself not to cry. Especially with all this makeup on.
His expression changed from anger to shocked and sadness. "We moved three years after you left. I thought my mom kept the same phone number... Riley I'm-" "I didn't even mention how you broke our promise." He looks down at me with shame. "You and I made a blood promise Mikey. That we would be each others firsts for everything. Everything!" Mikey takes a seat on the couch and puts his head in his hands. I couldn't help but feel guilty. It's been nearly ten years since I've seen him. My best friend. And here I was yelling at him. I let out a sigh and sit down beside him. I place my head on his shoulder. He and I sit in silence for a few minutes. We needed to calm down a bit before we say anything. He still means so much to me but I still feel hurt.
"I'm sorry. Riley. I just thought that. After so many years. You had forgotten about me. If it makes you feel any better. Jess is my first ever girlfriend. I still waited eight years for you." I lift my head up and smile at him. "I could never forget about you Mikey. You were my best friend. I don't just forget about things like that." He smiles and holds out his hand. "How about a fresh start?" I look down at his and then back up at him and smile. I grab his hand and shake it. "To a fresh start." He pulls me into a tight hug which I gratefully return.
