Twenty-Four

Ella was scared that everyone knew about her and Mick. She was scared that it was all going to come out about her affair with mick.

That morning, she heard arguing coming from downstairs. She grabbed her dressing gown and left.

Amelia and Mel were arguing. Ella looked to them. "What's going on?" She asked.

"Ah! If it isn't my perfect Ella. The one who never lets me down," Mel slurred. It was clear she was drunk. "Come on. Come and give mummy a cuddle. My pregnant disappointment."

Ella frowned. "You're drunk. Don't touch me."

"Oh stop it you drama queen. You're my baby. And I love you."

Ella looked to Amelia. "Why is she drunk at this time?" She asked as she looked at her.

Amelia shrugged. "I have no idea. I just got back. I've been with Jack all night."

Ella sighed. "She's an absolute joke of a mother and I'm not dealing with her crap," she said as she turned and walked off.

Ella was walking through the square. She saw Mick and Linda. They were arguing. Ella knew it was about what Mel had said. And how Mick was having an affair.

Ella walked past when Linda stopped her. "Don't suppose you know who Mick has been screwing?" She asked.

Ella felt the colour drain from her cheeks. She looked to Linda. "Honestly? I don't think he is. My mother was drunk and had no idea what she was talking about. Don't let her ruin your relationship. You're both perfect together," she said.

Linda turned to Mick. "Is that true?"

"Yes L. I love you. I wouldn't sleep with anyone else. Everyone else is meaningless compared to you. My doll."

Ella felt her heartbreak at hearing what Mick had said. She knew that at the end of the day, despite what Mick had said, she had always been the other woman. The woman who had ruined a marriage.

Ella looked to Linda. "I've got to go. Places to be."

Ella walked into the club. She saw Jack and Amelia there. "Mia..."

"What happened?" Amelia asked.

Ella broke down crying. She looked to her sister. "M-Mick. He told me I was meaningless compared to Linda. Why did I go for him? He's a married man and I went for him," she sobbed.

Amelia held her close. Jack smiled. Ella had confided in him about her and Mick. He didn't judge. He knew he wouldn't judge. "Listen, if he's saying that, then you're better off away from it. You've got your baby coming soon. Focus on that."

Ella nodded and smiled. "Thanks Jack."

"You're welcome. I'll leave you to it. I've got stuff to do," Jack said as he kissed Amelia and walked off.

Ella was walking back to the house. She saw Mick and sighed. She looked to him. "I don't think we should talk anymore. You were pretty clear."

Mick sighed. "I only said that because I didn't want her knowing about us. You're not meaningless to me. You're having my baby."

"Maybe it's for the best that we just forget it all. Focus on Linda and making it work," Ella mumbled as she walked off.

But was she being serious about what she had said?
