Alexa's POV
"Are you sure? I don't mind waiting with you?" Keen offers. We're stood beside his car, just outside of the main school building. School just finished and I'm waiting to meet Sarah. I've told Keen 3 times he can go and that he doesn't have to wait with me but he's having none of it.
"Sarah will be here any minute. She'll just be getting some thing from her locker." I reply, guessing that's where she's probably coming from any minute now. I look over my shoulder to the school entrance to make sure I spot her when she gets here.
Keen's sigh brings my attention back around. "I don't have a good feeling about this Alexa, you're sure she was okay with you?" He asks, placing his hand on my shoulder. I know why he's sceptical, he's very protective of me and Sarah doesn't exactly have the best track record, but she was so sincere today. I trust her.
"I am, she was really upset Keen. I'm just going to talk her through it, make sure she understands and then I'm going home." I assure him with a smile. It's almost like a tutoring session if you think about it, I love this book so I have no problem talking someone else through it.
He gives me a hug and annoyingly pats my head as he always does. "Okay, text me later Olsen." He finally gets in his car and leaves. There's still so many people coming out through the main entrance and I'm basically stood in the middle of the parking lot, so I text Sarah and let her know I'll wait for her somewhere a little quieter.
Sarah Knight
hey i'm outside but it's really
busy so i'll just wait for you
somewhere near the top gate
delivered 15:11I walk up to a bench that's next to the gate and place my bag down next to me. The sun is shining bright today but there's a cool breeze that keeps brushing past my neck reminding me it's just the start of summer and it's not quite at the peak of how hot it'll get.
For the first time in a while I think about what the waves must be like at the beach, it's the perfect time of year for it. I haven't surfed or even thought about surfing since my wipeout, but I miss it. The freedom and tranquility, the warm feeling of the sun as you sit on the board waiting for the next wave.
I remember one of the first times I went out on my own, I was a bit nervous. I just kept thinking I wouldn't get up on board quick enough and I would just fall off in front of everyone.
I sat on my board, legs pushing back and forth in the cool water, just looking up at the sky. I had plenty of sunscreen on, but I could still feel the little prickly sensation of the sun against my cheeks and my nose. My hair was always in a messy braid behind me, the salt water and sand doing it no favours.
But that breeze on your neck, the sound of the waves that was my favourite part. It was peaceful. I felt truly calm.
I smile to myself and open my eyes, realising I was in a little world of my own for a second there. I definitely need to find the courage to get back out on the water that's for sure.
I look towards the school again and I'm surprised how quiet it is all of a sudden. I pull my phone out, it immediately unlocks on to Sarah's messages, she hasn't replied yet but it's only been...
23 minutes.
No surely not? I look once again at the building behind me and back to my phone. I know I was in a bit of a daydream but surely I'd have realised if that much time had passed.
Shit.
I'll just text her again. I think to myself, knowing how many times I've been held up after school for, y'know... whatever reason.
