Day 40, June 20th

Archie got arrested 2 nights ago. He was caught stealing from a nearby convenience store, so Mike had to arrest him. The street feels rather lonely without Archie’s colorful language gracing the night. Mally cried when he was taken away. Mike reassured her that he’d be fine.

Mike brought his sons to see us yesterday. Ethan was a tall blonde, but Chase was a ginger. Neither me or Mally could imagine Mike with red hair. Ethan and Chase gave us twenty dollars and stayed to talk for a while. Apparently, Ethan works for another news company, one that covers more area than the one that interviewed me before. He asked permission to do a story on me. Mally encouraged me to say yes. She said that if I did the story, maybe Claryse would see me and decide she wants to marry me. I agreed. Ethan’s going to come back in a week.

Mally’s friends invited her out four days ago. She borrowed clothes and got all dressed up. She came to see me to make sure I’d be alright while she was gone and to bring me dinner. I told her I’d be fine and reminded her of the time I’d spent alone before she and Archie came. She seemed uneasy, so I told her she looked pretty and to go away.

That was the loneliest night I’d ever had on that corner. I ate dinner, but I didn’t go home. I stayed all night, missing Mally, Archie, and Bernard. Mally came back in the morning and made sure I was okay. She said she’d stayed over at her friend’s house. She told me that she’d worried about me all night long, so she was going to stay on the corner with me from now on. I acted like I didn’t care, but I was happy that I wouldn’t be alone again on the inside.

She really did look pretty.
