Sir, yes sir.
Evan was stronger than ever before. At first the basic training thinned him out, he looked to be a shell of himself then they beefed him up. He was pure muscle and power. It had been 3 years since he started in the army. And every day for three years, Evan woke up and thanked God that he got to live another day. He also prayed for his parents, to keep them safe and protect them if anything were to happen to him. Evan was such a sweet boy and had such a kind soul. He had just turned 21 last month, Cameron didn't make it to 21 so every day since then he thanked God twice and would continue to until he got back home back to Iowa.
It was a Wednesday, a beautifully cloudy day. Evan wasn't supposed to go out, he wasn't supposed to be in that truck. But, his friend, his new friend that became more like a brother over the past year wasn't feeling well, food poising was his thought. So that morning he ate a bit, thanked God for another day and headed out. Evan got his commands, he grabbed the keys, hoped into the rover and started to back out of the camp but Micah's smiling face stopped him, he was waving excitedly, running up to the truck.
Evan wasn't supposed to be there, Evan was supposed to be in his bunk resting after his injury. The previous day his shoulder popped out and it didn't set correctly but, he was stubborn and he wanted to help. Besides, Evan needed the distraction.
Micah, his friend from home, his brother on the field said everything was going to be fine. Evan had just gotten a letter from Hillary. It didn't matter that Hillary had dumped him. In all honestly Evan didn't think about Hillary once since leaving. Besides, his parents loved him, his team valued him, and his friends back home and Micah right here were always gonna be there for him, no matter what. Or so he thought.
"I'm going to be out there soon." Micah said as he waved off Evan. "Gotta get todays assignment,"
"Coopers" both Evan and Micah stopped and looked to the sergeant. "Go with Brooks." A smile smeared across Micah's face.
"Looks like I'm stuck with you Cooper" Evan joked, yanking open the beat up car door. Micah's head bobbed as he jumped in. "You ready?" Evan had asked, but little did they know that neither of them were really for what was to come. Evan smiled wide as he headed out of the compound. It was just supposed to be a ride, to check for traps and get a closer look on the area. Evan played the music low and hung his hand out the window, letting the sand wrap itself around him. Within that moment of peace and boredom, there was a hazy smoke, turned into fiery rage and pain.
