First Encounters – Scarlett
She was injured and broken but if you saw her in the store or walking slowly down the street you would see a young woman with a really good fake smile and at least in her opinion a semi stylish outfit. When she first saw Evan she was supposed to be on a date a blind date but, he was late and Evan was at the bar. She only saw half of him, the half he showed the world. He seemed nice and friendly so after a drink she was done waiting for the date to arrive.
He's staring at me, she thought, but he's not her blind date. He's cute though she supposed as she turned to see him better. He kept looking at her or maybe it's because she was looking at him or maybe... oh screw it she thought and moved toward him. Scarlett was never this formal, she was usually a total mess and couldn't talk to any guy she liked without stumbling on her words. But, she didn't know him, so she didn't like him, yet.
"Hi" the words came out as she sat down and the hesitation and fear broke out in Evan. Scarlett couldn't help but think she shouldn't have sat down, she should have just left. But then they started talking and he wasn't a complete jerk like most guys at crappy bars at 8:47 at night. The night was going way better then Scarlett expected, sure her date stood her up but, Evan was worth the momentary let down.
Scarlett was never this direct but she learned that if you like someone, get their number or you will never have a chance of seeing them again. She put her number in and everything was going great, he was normal and thought that she was normal. What could be better? That was until Jack called. As his face popped up Scarlet held her breath and swore a million times in her head. Hand him back his phone and throw yours across the room, she thought as she hit save. Give him the phone she demanded herself and she stuck out her hand, delivering it to him grazing Evan's hand in the process. Scarlett wanted Evan to text her right away so he wouldn't forget and it would give him no excuse not to call her. But she didn't want to seem overly attached or pushy so instead she called him a jerk. After the statement came out she wished she just said call me like an annoying person but after seeing Jack's name, and his stupid face, it made her angry and say stupid things.
Scarlett ended the call but Jack kept calling, Scarlett put the phone down on the bar face up, the counter wasn't clean enough for face down. Jack's name kept popping up, Scarlett tried to get more words out but her eyes flashed down to the phone and away from Evan every time he called. She didn't wanted to look away, she wanted to memorize Evan in case she never saw him again but Jack was persistent.
"Bye Scarlett" Scarlett didn't want to leave, she wanted to throw her phone in the garbage and never give Jack another thought but, he was part of her life and sadly, always would be.
"What?" she barked as she finally answered his call. "I'm busy and it's late."
"I miss you baby doll."
"Are you drunk?" she spat, he slurred some words indicating that he was. "Not that I'm surprised" she was out of the bar now and in the quiet side street. She walked around the corner to her car but didn't drive home when she reached her car. She sat and talked with Jack until she was calm and he stopped being a pain in her butt, he would call and call until he got what he wanted. When she finally hung up she remembered Evan and what a good time the past 16 minutes was. Was it too soon to get a text from him? She already wanted to see him again, she felt like a little kid with a massive crush she thought as she glanced back to the bar, she put her car in drive and headed home for the night.
