Noticing his approach, Sofia quickly left her glass on the closest table before turning to him.
"It's too early for you to say that."
"At least you're trying harder." Gabriel pointed with his head to the abandoned glass on the table.
"It's not for you, believe me." And she blushed.
She really did look lovely when she was blushing, and it made the red locks in her hair stand out even more. Or he thought they were red. However, Gabriel knew that she was not adorable at all, she was not an easy person to deal with, and she was not half as sweet as his sister.
Before he could answer, Arthur approached.
"Sweet Sofia, will you dance with me?"
Gabriel chose to walk away to the bar before hearing Sofia's answer, and then another woman approached him.
"Bothering a lot of innocent girls, Gabe?"
Cecilia, who had known him since she was a child because she was Tomas's sister, went to see why he had such a mischievous smile on his face. His relaxed posture with his body splayed out on the bar stool contrasted with Gabriel's analytical eyes. He was probably planning some kind of plan for his next conquest.
"You know there's nothing innocent about them, Sissy."
Cecilia laughed.
"I don't know if they all know how much trouble are you."
"I guarantee they all know what they're getting into, I don't make empty promises."
When she was young, Cecilia had a crush on Gabriel, but when she saw that he would never open up to her, she decided to move on and leave her brother's friend alone. They had spent good times together on vacation, at the beach and at the Hurst family's country house.
"I am not sure about that. And how are things going? Behind that smile you look tired."
"Working hard, as usual. And you look beautiful, as always!"
Cecilia really looked beautiful in that green dress that brought out the color of her eyes. As beautiful as... and his eyes returned to where they had been before. Sofia was still talking to Arthur.
"Very kind, Gabe, as always." Cecilia thanked him, repeating his words to tease him. However, he didn't even notice. She followed his gaze to the table across the dance floor and saw the reason for the distraction. She pointed to Sofia and Arthur talking.
"It seems that our dear cousin has outdone you and found his new victim."
"I feel sorry."
"For her? Me too, little does she know how inconvenient and snobbish he is." Cecilia agreed
"Him!"
"Him?" Cecilia looked at him confused. "What do you mean Gabe?"
"Tomás' future sister-in-law has already spilled two drinks on me. And I've only met her twice! I don't know if my closet will last until the wedding."
Cecilia couldn't control her laughter.
"I'm sure they were accidents. I talked to her at the engagement dinner and she seems quite normal. She wouldn't stalk you like your ex-girlfriends."
"They chase me because they can't get enough."
"Oh please Gabe, no need to be so cocky with me, I know your heart is a block of ice. I've tried and failed, remember?"
Gabriel's gaze softened and he stared at Cecilia:
"You know I never intended to hurt you, don't you?"
"I know, now I know, but who can control a young heart in love?" Cecilia answered and smiled as she touched Gabriel's arm.
"You're great, Sissy."
"I think so too. But then, back to our object of study."
"Let's not analyze the girl, Sissy."
"Yes we are, Gabe. You might be surprised. Did you know that she was abroad until recently?"
"Really?"
"You see, I can already hear interest in your tone of voice."
"I was being polite."
"Don't bother, I know you better than that. Anyway, after she came back, she decided to open her own sweets business for events and is doing very well. She made the desserts for the engagement dinner and will make the ones for the wedding. Did you taste them?"
"I haven't had the chance yet, my shirt was wet before that." And she gave Cecilia a wry smile.
"They are very good, and I'm not just saying that because soon we will all be one big family. She really seems like a good person, Gabe. So please don't ruin it by getting involved with her."
"I wouldn't dream of it," and again the mischievous smile appeared.
"Gabe, you are like a brother to me, just like Eric. The Three Musketeers, isn't that what you used to call yourselves?"
Gabriel nodded. Sissy was right, they were his family, where he found the love and support to grow that he could not find in his own blood relatives. Cecilia kept going on with the speech from her childhood days
"And I was the damsel to be rescued in your misadventures. She's not a damsel, she takes very good care of her own life, so stay away from her so as not to create problems for Tomás and Alice. The sisters are very close, from what Ali told me."
"Sissy, I don't intend to go anywhere with her. In fact, I already have other plans." And he looked in the direction of the girl who accompanied him to the table.
"Gabriel Lanvini, less, please."
But he was already leaving.
"Sissy, always a pleasure. " And he took her hand and gave her a kiss.
"Always a charmer," Sissy answered, laughing, "Enjoy your evening."
Gabriel went towards the girl only to divert Cecilia's attention. He found Tomás and Alice near the door of the restaurant saying goodbye to Alice's friends. He decided to take advantage of the moment to say goodbye and end the night.
Sofia, who was watching from afar the interaction between Cecília and Gabriel, couldn't believe that he would hit on his friend's sister. And then he still went after a waitress. He had no scruples, right?
