Since this was a true love story, full of romance and even action, his fault, by the way, Tomás Hurst knew that many women in the party were making plans to follow in his and Alice's footsteps. He noticed the lustful glances on his friends and tried in vain to convince them that their chosen path was the best one to take.

"I can't believe that one of us is getting married," Eric exclaimed.

"He was hooked," Gabriel added, and Tomás laughed uncomfortably.

"One day you will know what it is like. And then I'll be telling you the same thing." And he added. "Well, Eric already knows it every time he finds a new girlfriend."

"I don't see myself going down that road," Gabriel said before taking a sip of the scotch on the rocks in his hand.

"Correction: you don't want to see yourself walking down this path," contradicted Tomás. "You just haven't found the right person, the only one that matters."

"I really am the only one that matters, darling," Alice intervened in the conversation and hugged Tomas around his waist. Alice was the most beautiful woman he knew, but that night she looked stunning in her silver dress. It was a simple model, but the dress sparkled every time she moved, and nothing could be more beautiful than the true expression of happiness on her face. The boys laughed and Gabriel whispered to Eric, but everyone heard:

"Indeed, completely hooked."

"Gabe, I have heard from them that you have no heart, however, I refuse to believe this, and I must agree with Tomás that it is only a matter of time." Alice commented. And she was right, he couldn't disagree.

However, she didn't know the whole story, only Tomas and Eric, and even they didn't know all his fears. They were already part of his life before it all fell apart, so Gabriel couldn't lock them outside his heart like he did with everyone else. Alice only knew that he had lost his mother when he was young and played this role of the tough, unreachable, unshakable guy. Too busy enjoying life, traveling and dating the most beautiful women, to actually let his heart fall in love with the right girl. Eric and Tomás let Gabriel live the way he wanted to live, and he was satisfied. Wasn't that what really mattered?

Eric, the most romantic of all, added:

"Or you can do like me and turn them all into the right person. Nothing is as sweet as falling in love," he said with a dreamy look.

"Says the guy who has fallen in love 300 times and not married one." Gabriel replied.

"Marriage is another story, it takes work, involves family, church and state, we are talking about love," Eric laughed.

"Is it really love that you feel for Samanta?" asked Alice.

"I'm still figuring it out, she's a bit difficult." Eric shrugged.

"It's not love," Gabriel cut him off, "if it were it wouldn't be so difficult. She doesn't value you, man, she uses you because of your company and your connections."

"And your family," added Tomás, not wanting to agree with Gabriel, but agreeing. "I'm not cold like Gabe, but Samanta has really outdone everyone else, man. It's time for you to move on and find someone who is interested in what you are without all the other things."

"You really know what matters, darling," Alice kissed Tomás and turned to the others with a bright smile.

"You've even overlooked his dubious past." commented Gabriel, always ruining any romantic mood. Two years before their engagement, when Tomás had first become interested in Alice, he had been doing shady jobs for the wrong people, and in an attempt to stay away and be a better person, he had ended up putting Alice in danger. It was surprising that Alice's family didn't mind her marrying Tomas after that. However, as time went on it became clear that he would give his life for her and there was everyone celebrating the engagement of them.

"The adrenaline helped me to see the love for Ali," answered Tomás.

"I didn't need that much adrenaline." Alice added with a smile. Today they might laugh about it, but at the time there were many tense moments. " But love can surprise us, Gabe."

Gabriel, who was not liking the direction of the conversation, decided to interrupt it and asked Tomás:

"Shouldn't you guys greet your other guests instead of teasing your best friends?"

"Gabe, Gabe. One day you'll be so surrounded by love that by the time you realize it, it will be too late to run away." replied Tomás, before taking Alice's hand and walking away with her to talk to the other guests.

"Man, he's right. " Eric acknowledged.

"Hello my loves," Cecilia approached as soon as the couple walked away. "How are you? Is my brother right about something?"

"Hi Sissy, how are you?" Gabriel preferred to answer just the first question and put an end to the previous subject.

"All right, I'm getting to know the rest of the family. We'll be spending a lot of time with them, until the wedding at least." Cecilia replied.

"You look beautiful." Gabriel complimented. She was wearing a pale green dress with light, flowing one-shoulder fabric, and her blonde hair was tied up in a tight side bun.

"Thank you. You don't look so bad yourself. " Cecilia put a hand on each of their shoulders.

"We're trying to defrost Gabe's heart." Eric didn't, or didn't want to, understand Gabriel's earlier cue to end the subject and went straight to the point.

Cecilia just widened her eyes and smiled. This was a recurring subject between them and a source of much laughter for everyone, except Gabriel, who still insisted on taking the focus off himself.

"Did you find a new girlfriend for Eric?" Gabriel questioned.

"What happened with Samanta?" Cecilia turned to Eric in surprise and asked him.
