"When alpha particles go through gold foil, they become..." Barb said while reading one of Nancy's flash cards. "Unoccupied space." She answered correctly. "A molecule that can-" Barb was suddenly cut off when the cards were snatched from her hands. "Hey!" She said. "What the h*ll?" You asked.
"I've never seen you around here before. You're new?" Some guy, who you assumed to be Tommy asked while messing with Barbs hair, clearly making her uncomfortable. "Yeah, that's Dana, she just moved here." Nancy answered for you. "I think you've studied enough, Nance." "Steve-" "I'm telling you, you know, you got this. Don't worry. Now, onto more important matters. My dad has left town on a conference and my mom's gone with him, cause, you know, she doesn't trust him." "Good call." Tommy chimed in. "So are you in?" "In for what?" She asked. "No parents? Big house?" Carol added. "A party?" "Ding ding ding!" "It's Tuesday." Nancy stated. Tommy began to mock her until Steve have him a playful hit. "It'll be low key. It'll be just us. So are you in or are you out?" Nancy hesitated for a minute before Carol spoke up. "Oh God, Look." You all turned to a boy your age putting up flyers for Lucas's missing friend. You assumed that was his older brother by their similar looks. "Oh God, that's depressing." Steve joked. "Should we say something?" Nancy asked cautiously. "I don't think he speaks." Carol replied. "How much you wanna bet he killed him?" Tommy joked. "What is wrong with you a*sholes?" You finally spoke. Getting tired of the three of them already, you walked over to him. You didn't know him, but you felt bad.

"Hey." You said. "Oh hey." "I know you don't know me, and I don't really know you, but I just wanted to say that I'm sorry about what happened to Will." "Thanks, uh, you know him?" "My cousin did. I'm Dana Sinclair, Lucas's cousin." You said holding out your hand. "Jonathan." He said as he shook it. "I just moved here, but I met him the other night. He seemed like a nice kid." "Yeah, he is." He took a minute to look back at the group you came from, probably assuming you were friends with all of them.  "Everyone's thinking about you. But I'm sure he's fine." He was about to say something else before you were interrupted by the bell ringing. "Dana, we have to go! Chemistry test!" Nancy called from behind you. "Sorry, I have to run." "Yeah, no problem." "Good luck though." "Thanks." You said as you walked over to Nancy and head into the Chem lab.

After school, you and Nancy spent about 20 minutes on the phone trying to convince Barb to go to Steve's party. "Why?" She asked. "Because we don't want to go by alone." Barb it's not rocket science. You just tell your parents you're gonna stay at Nancy's place afterwards." "You don't even like them, why are you going?" She asked through the phone. "Because, rich white people always have the best drinks." "Come on Barb, please." Nancy pleaded. She sighed before inevitably agreeing."Yes!" You and Nancy high fived before getting called down for dinner.

Everyone was pretty much silent, which was weird because there was 8 people at the table. You, Nancy, Lucas, Mike, Dustin, Karen, Ted, and Holly were all crammed around one table. "Something wrong with the meatloaf?" Karen asked the boys. Dustin and Lucas then went on to explain that they each had to bologna sandwiches for lunch. Clearly trying to kiss up to her mother, Nancy started speaking, "It's delicious, Mommy." "Thank you sweetie." "So there's this special assembly thing tonight for Will at the school field. Barb's driving Dana and I." "Why am I just hearing about this?" "I though you knew." "I told you, I don't want you out after dark until Will is found." "I know, but it'd be super weird if I'm not there." "Everyone is going, Mrs. Wheeler." You added. She contemplated for a minute. "Just...be back by 10:00." She said. You and Nancy's victory was cut short when she suggested you take the boys with you. "No!" You all replied. "Don't you think you should be there for Will?" She asked. Suddenly Mike spat out his milk and Dustin banged on the table, blaming it on spasms. You all sat confused while you finished eating dinner.
