❝WHAT the hell did you just say?” The words were spat with venom lacing the syllables. Her eyes were a blue fire that led to a blazing inferno and her fist were clenched so hard that her knuckles resembled ivory.
Rebecca looked ready to faint, but she wasn’t swaying. No, she was vibrating in fury - her jaw clenching so tight - Ryker swore that it looked ready to break at any second.
“What the fuck did you just say?” She repeated.
“If you kill me-” Robert panted, Vincent’s hands still gripping his head and chin. “-you’ll never find your mother.”
When she took a step towards him, Ryker made a move to grab her - but Rebecca smacked his hand away.
“My mother is dead.” Rebecca made sure to emphasize the word - whether for herself or for her father she didn’t know. “She has been dead for a long time.”
“No,” Robert shook his head as best as he could in Vincent’s grip. “No, she’s alive - I swear to you she is!”
“You lie!” The girl accused.
“Rebecca, I swear to you - this is the one time I am not lying. Your mother is alive, I kept her alive as a back up plan.”
The brunette stilled, her eyes going wide and mouth twisting as she ran her father’s words through her head.
Back up plan.
She blinked once, then twice, another time before she finally understood what he meant.
If she hadn't listened to him, hadn’t obeyed his command to be his pawn - he would have had the perfect leverage to hold over her head. Her father was willing to kill her mother, his wife, to get what he wanted.
Scotty was right, greed and power corrupts like any disease does - it eats away at your being, until you only have one thought in mind.
“You selfish bastard!” No one had time to react before Rebecca had lunged at her father - ripping Robert from Vincent’s hands.
They tumbled a few feet before the girl stood, and with an inhuman-like strength, she lifted his body up and slammed it into one of the many buildings of the community. The force of the slam caused a bit of rubble to crumble and the old building to groan.
She had him strung up by the collar, her fists aching from how hard she gripped the material of the vest. Her body thrummed with something she had never felt before, and she relished in it.
“Where is my mother?” The words were a low rumble in her throat that seemed to echo all around. “Where is she! I swear if you don’t tell me I will let Ryker tear you apart six ways to fucking sunday!”
God if Margery could see her now, she would be so fucking proud.
“At the north end of the wall, in a small house near the border!” Robert rushed, then he paused and watched as deep gold mixed with blue within his daughter’s eyes. “I knew it.” He whispered, but the girl ignored him.
Instead, she slung him around to face Vincent and Ryker - both of the Beastial’s watching the girl with shocked eyes and dropped jaws.
The brunette ignored them, choosing to glare down at her father instead with a hatred unlike anything she had ever felt.
“When I see my mother, then and only then will I decide if you live.” Rebecca all but growled.
“You can’t kill me Rebecca! I’m your father!” Robert protested as Vincent grabbed his arms and ripped him from the human’s grip. “Rebecca!”
“You haven’t been my father for a long damn time.” Rebecca shook her head, rolling her jaw for a few moments before walking away.
“Maybe it’s best if we keep you here. I wouldn’t trust her not to kill you if we took you back to the camp.” The human heard Ryker tell her father as she got further away from the group. “You’ll stay in your jail cell until I decide what to do with you.”
She had to get out of here. She could feel the tears coming, feel the cries crawling farther and farther up her throat. But, she couldn’t let them escape, not in front of everyone - not in front of him.
“He’s all yours babe.” She muttered to Ryker as she moved past him, paying no mind to the concerned looks he gave her.
As soon as she made it inside the cottage, she broke - her hand coming up to her mouth a wailing sob escaped her lips. Slowly, she sank to the floor - body wracking with cries and whimpers.
She was alive.
Her mother was alive the whole damn time.
She didn’t stop crying when she heard knocking on the door, and she didn’t stop crying when a body had pushed the door open - moving just enough to let them squeeze into the room.
Rebecca could only cry as Arden held her - rocking slowly as they both sat on the cold floor.
“I got you, Rebecca.” Arden soothed, shutting the door back and leaving them alone in the empty cottage.
The only sounds that echoed through the house were Rebecca’s cries and Arden’s attempt to soothe the brunette.
* * * * *
HER blue eyes shimmered brightly and her blonde ringlet curls fell like waterfalls over her shoulder. She stood beside a large tree, a hand grabbing at a branch as she attempted to climb to the top.
Rebecca ran her thumb over the photo, shaking ever so slightly. Her breath came out in short pants and she fought back her tears once again.
‘Get a damn grip, Becks.’ She scolded herself with a drop of her head. ‘Crying is not gonna solve anything.’
“Rebecca?” She didn’t look up at the sound of her name, instead choosing to keep her gaze locked onto the photo. “Becca?”
“Did you know that she picked out my name three days after I was born?” She asked Ryker. Knowing he didn’t know how to reply, she answered for him. “Margery says that her and d-dad fought like cats and dogs over what my name should be. Finally mom put her foot down, and dad backed off.”
She tucked the photo into the box she had pulled it from and put the cardboard container back on the table beside her cot.
Ryker gave her a sad smile, and took a seat beside her. “She sounds alot like you. Doesn’t take anyone’s shit, head strong as hell.”
“She’s alive Ryker - she has been alive this whole time.” Rebecca whispered and the Beastial let out a sigh, pulling the girl into an embrace.
“We will find her, Rebecca.” The blonde muttered - pressing a kiss into her hair. “I promise.”
