THE word Ilunga means ‘A person who can forgive two abuses, but never a third offense.’ Once upon a time, maybe Rebecca could have forgiven her father for the neglect, hell maybe even for the lies and deceit. She wouldn’t forgive him for murdering all those innocent Beastial’s - but she would still love him.
Now with this new information, she didn’t feel anything for her father except resentment. Her blood boiled at the mere thought of the man and her hands ached to hit something.
But, now was not the time to dwell on him. And as much as it pained her to say - she didn’t need to focus on getting her mother back.
Right now all that mattered was the Beastial’s safety and somehow the human knew that is what her mother would want her to focus on.
Rebecca stood at the top of the canyon, looking down at the camp. The warriors were helping sit up shelters and clearing out leaves and rocks to reveal old bunkers hidden in the walls of the gorge. The women were helping sort out food and catching fish from the river that ran through the plateau.
She could see Ryker down there, lifting two large stumps of wood over his shoulders along with Vincent. Scotty was scolding children left and right - but she knew he was only playing with them.
It killed her to think how used to this they were. How having to hide had become almost a second nature to them. How losing one of their closest friends was something almost all of them were used to by now.
It showed how much the Beastial’s had preserved over the years - how despite what fate would throw at them, they would overcome it with their heads held high.
They knew what they wanted with life, they knew how to live and never let the stars of the past bring them down to the floor.
Yes, some did have demons they had to battle within their minds, but it just made them stronger - braver.
And Rebecca’s mind seemed to flash back to her relationship with Ryker. The teasing touches and passion filled kisses the two shared were always enough to have her knees quivering.
She cared for him, yes, but she wouldn’t go as far as to say she loved him. Not yet at least.
The human knew she needed to make her mind up soon. If she wanted to stay or return to Eutheria. But, at this time with the news of her mother being alive - she didn’t know what to do.
And Ryker.
Ryker Young had been there every step of the way. He held her when she cried and listened to her suggestions about what to do while they were at the camp. But recently he had been busy, and looked even more stressed than usual.
An idea had formed in her mind as a smirk fluttered onto her lips.
She knew just how to get the Beastial to relax.
