"You're too short!" Scott had climbed the tree in front of my house and was swinging his legs down towards me and laughing. "Want me to help you?"

"No! I'll get up there myself."

He smiled and moved over, as if leaving a space open for me. I figured I couldn't just hop up into the tree like Scott had, but there had to be an alternative way to get up there. There was a piece of bark loose on the other side of the tree. I walked around and climbed using nature's foot holes and scaring the hell out of Scott before I sat down next to him.

"You made it!"

"You weren't any help."

"I didn't need to be! You did it by yourself." He smiled so hard I thought he'd get stuck that way like our mother's always warned us. I rolled my eyes and thought of pushing him, but the tree was too high for a safe fall. He leaned over against me and hugged me. "You're really smart."

That's how it always was for us. Scott would fully commit to something I thought was impossible for me and make it look seemingly effortless and let me place my own foot holes to close the gap. He wasn't alone though.

"Want my fruit cup?" Kirstie always sat next to me in lunch with her twin ponytails secured with those hair pulling bobble things. I handed her my peaches as a trade for her mixed fruit cup, which was basically trading a dollar for 4 quarters, but we didn't care. "I want to start a homeless people house."

"Yeah? That sounds hard."

"It might be, but they need a place to go. I see them outside a lot." She smiled that crooked smile of hers and stuffed a peach into her mouth. Kirstie always came up with these genius ideas that seemed impossible, but never stopped working towards them until she was finished.

By the time Kirstie and I got to high school, Scott was in his sophomore year. I could still remember the look on Kirstie's face when some random guy she didn't know hugged me and spun me around. She looked like she wanted to fight him.

"Excuse you!"

"Hm? Oh! Hi! You must be Mitch's famous girlfriend. I'm Scott." He smiled and held his hand out towards Kirstie with his other arm still around my shoulders.

"Kirstie." She shook his hand with furrowed brows, but Scott refused to let that room lighting smile of his fade.

Within the beginning of our second month at school, the three of us had become a close circle of friends. Kirstie and I broke up, I know, shocker. Scott and I both came out as gay. Kirstie tried to hook us up, but we couldn't even look at each other for three seconds let alone kiss without laughing hysterically.

"Lets go to the same college!" Kirstie had this huge smile on her face, like she's just solved the universes problems.

"I got into NYSAS," Scott said as he neared his senior graduation. He had been in a funk for a few weeks, probably thinking about leaving his two best friends behind. "You guys can do a lot better than that."

"That's perfect. It's right by the Brewery!" I clasped my hands together and took a strong deep breath.

"You've been talking about that studio forever. Isn't it like mad expensive?"

"Yes, Mr. Chin-of-sadness, but I plan on working hard to earn the money to record there. Even if it's just a couple hours."

"At least you both have plans. I'm just... here." Kirstie sighed and looked up at us.

"What about Broadway?" I whined.

"What about it?"

"That was your dream wasn't it?" Scott sat up and placed his oversized hand on her small shoulder.

"I need a back up plan. What if that doesn't work?"

"It will." I stood up and held my hands out towards Kirstie. "You've been in a theatre everyday since the day you were old enough to belt at an audience. Don't you dare tell me you aren't good enough you perfect peach."

She smiled and hugged before Scott added himself to our moment. We all stood there hugging the same way we would almost a year later when Kirstie and I arrived on campus to start our futures.
