I was sitting in the corner of Avi and Kevin's apartment, rereading one of my summer books for clarity before I'd probably end up writing a paper for it in my English class.
"Avi! I can't find my other sock!"
"It's in the top drawer on the left."
"Why didn't you put them together?" Kevin ran into the living room half wearing his favorite grey cardigan and black button-up shirt.
Avi walked out of his room holding Kevin's black bow tie, which was accented with two differently shaped chains and a rose pin, and wrapped it around Kevin's neck. "You wouldn't have found it either way, Playa." Avi straightened the tie and pated Kevin's chest before walking into the kitchen to grab Kevin's lunch and Coffee off the table. I felt like I was watching a married couple on a busy morning.
"I'm out. Bye, Mitch!" He grabbed his things from Avi and rushed out. Avi shook his head and closed the door behind him.
"What time is your husband coming back?"
"Shut up." Avi leaned down and kissed me before sitting right next to me, and reading over my shoulder. "Oh! I remember this book!"
"Don't you fucking dare."
"I won't! I promise." He laughed and hugged my waist. It was becoming a normality for the two of us to just sit around and do nothing on my days off. "Oh! I have a show tonight. Do you want to come watch?"
"You know, I don't think I've ever seen you on stage."
"Is that a yes?" He kissed my shoulder and trailed up towards my neck.
"If you keep going, neither of us is going to make it."
"You're right."
After a few hours of almost nothing, Avi and I got dressed and headed to this popular bar downtown. He held my hand tight as we walked inside. The place was empty, but that was just because we were early. Avi lead me around introducing me to everyone setting up before he pulled me up on stage with him.
"Sing a song with me before people get here?"
"Sure!"
He pulled a ukulele out from backstage and handed it to me before setting up two stools for us to sit on. I started to sing Count on me by Bruno Mars, just like the first time we sang together and before long everyone in the bar was completely entranced in our melding voices. The atmosphere seemed to lighten, which I didn't think was possible with the already hospitable air flowing through the veins of everyone there. Avi ran over and started playing piano with me and sung the harmony just below me. I had never had so much fun singing like that. After a few more songs, Avi ran over and kissed me before putting the ukulele back where he found it.
"You guys are amazing!" Kevin beamed. I wasn't sure when he'd snuck into the crowd, but he was there.
"Thanks, husband." Avi pulled me against his side and smiled at Kevin. Kevin cackled as Avi lead me off the stage.
"You're a weird choice for a wife," Kevin half laughed.
"I'll say. He's a weird boyfriend too."
"Hey, now!"
Avi was a monster on stage. The amount of sexual frustration I got from watching him sing on stage probably wasn't healthy. After his set he pulled me backstage with him, much to the dismay of the girls in the front row, and disappeared with me for the rest of the night.
