"You're staring at me, Mochi."
"Yeah."
Avi shook his head and continued to eat the large breakfast that Kevin had prepared. Kevin sat a plate down in front of me and smiled generously. According to Avi, this was Kevin's yearly reminder that his birthday was coming up. I cut free and stuffed a syrup-covered chunk of pancake in my mouth, with my eyes locked on Avi. He somehow managed to look beautiful even right after rolling out his bed and after a long night with me. It had been a month since the first time he said we loved each other and it was coming close to mid-terms.
"Hey, Avi."
"Hm?" He had a mouth full of eggs and bacon and this dopey look in his face. He was so beautiful.
"I don't think I can go out this weekend. I want to do some extra studying for my mid-terms."
"Okay. That's fine." He leaned over and planted a syrup-y kiss on my cheek. I could feel it on my face even long after Avi'd returned to eating and Kevin sat down to join us. I had this little syrup kiss on my face and I honestly wasn't sure if I wanted to wash it off or not. I had somehow managed to eat all my food before Avi and Kevin, so I sat and stared at Avi some more. "You're staring."
"I'm obsessed with you."
Kevin stabbed one of the sausage links on his plate and pointed his fork at us. "Y'all are gross." He bit the sausage and laughed.
"You can't talk!"
"And why can't I?"
"You and Essie-Bear were ruining breakfast for me at least 5 times a week!"
"That's not fair."
"You're not fair."
I stole a sausage from Avi's plate while him and Kevin argued about almost nothing. I found myself lost in the subtle ways his face moved. It was special. There was a way his face entirely relaxed when he was thinking that made me smile. He looked like a displeased child after a fight. Avi stuck his tongue out at Kevin and stuffed a forkful of pancake in his mouth. I had to guess that he won, since I wasn't particularly paying attention.
"You're stupid, Homie."
Avi laughed evilly through his pancake filled mouth and wiggled his fingers around like some madman. Kevin and I rolled our eyes together.
After breakfast, I somehow ended up sitting in their apartment alone. Their apartment was more closed in then mine. There were walls and doorways separating each room, where mine was free flowing between each public room. I ended up sitting on the floor in some random corner with my books and notes spread out in front of me. Avi and Kevin arrived home to me finishing up about a weeks worth of homework and sipping the hot cup of tea I'd made.
"You're staring, Chibi."
"You're amazing."
