Hiccup's pov
————————————————
It had only been 6 weeks since I shot him down. Only 4 since I became friends him. I am the happiest I have ever been. I have ever been learning and exploring the undercover places of Berk. I thought that one day that I would show them, show the village, my father, that they were wrong about dragons. But I wonder even if it would be possible. The entire village thought that I was weak and that I'm runt that is always getting in the way of the others. But that has changed now. Thanks to Toothless, I have a greater understanding of how dragons and I am able to pass dragon training- so far at least. They will choose the Viking to kill a monstress nightmare soon. I don't think I could kill a dragon anymore- now that I have met Toothless.

I look down at the sketch pad I have been drawing in for ten minutes, another scotch of the cove that surrounded me and toothless - who was currently napping in his usual spot. This one wasn't too bad actually. I sigh knowing that I'm going to be late to class if I didn't leave now. So, getting up I slowly trudge back towards the village wishing I could be with my dragon all time instead of people who don't really see me.

Astrid's pov
————————————————-

I have been sharpening my axe for dragon training for most of the morning, waiting for the class to start. But mostly this morning I have been lost in thought of what I could Hiccups have been doing to get so good at dragon training. I overheard Gobber say "he as a way with the beasts" to the chief. Who has just returned from a trip to find the nest, again no success. Now that Stoick is back one of us will be chosen soon. I hope is me.

I find Hiccup's speedy improvement to be strange. I mean,  I'm proud of him, not that I would ever let him know that. But I just don't understand how, I know he's up to something. He is always disappearing into the forest, and no matter how many times I try to follow, I always lose him.

I look though my window noticing the how high the sun is in the sky. It's time. I move off my bed, and walk down stairs.

I hear my mum calling from the kitchen "Good luck Astrid".

"Thanks".

Walking out side, the village centre is busier than it has been the past couple of weeks. I walk fast to get out of the crowd. And I walk with my chin held high ready for whatever Gobber is going to though my way today.

"Hello Beautiful, how are you today? Ready kick some dragon butt?!" I sigh and push Snotlout in gut. He really gets on my nerves.

"One, DON'T call me beautiful. Two, when am I not ready?" I was sending him my death glare. I don't think he noticed.

"Sorry babe, but I thought you've been off your game? With Hiccup beating all of us and all. Even you, and you're the best out of all of us".

I roll my eyes at the at the "babe" comment. Snotlout has it in his head that we are going to get married one day, a concept that I find revolting.

While I am disappointed that I wasn't top of dragon training. But I am happier with Hiccup being ahead. I'm happy he is finally fitting in and maybe someday I will be better talking to people, and we could possibly be friends.

"I'm not off my game. I think it's good that Hiccup is improving. It means a future chief is finally becoming a Viking, and it means I need to work harder for the honour of killing the dragon"

I can hear Snotlout going on about how he would be the better chef. I try to ignore him because the arena is now in view. I start to mentally prepare myself for whatever Gobber has prepared for us.

Hiccup's pov
—————————————————

I am the first one at the arena, as per usual. Gobber has set up several wooden barriers randomly though out the space with the usual set of weapons near the entrance. Gobber is by the deadly Nadder cage. Gobber is the only who has been really nice to me, he's like a second father to me. He taught me everything I know when it come to forging weapons and shields. I think he wanted to make sure that was useful in some way, so the other Vikings didn't completely toss me aside. I will be forever grateful for that. In my opinion his only down fall is his want to kill dragons. I walk over to him smiling, and greet him like is any other day. We are talking about new canon plans he's created when the others finally arrive.

Everything next happens in a daze.

Gobber lets the nadder out its cage. we all doge the blast of fire and spins. I get behind one of the barriers.

"Ruff, Tuff you're OUT"

It was one of those class, last one left standing. I look out from my hiding place the dragon was after Snotlout.
"Snotlout OUT!"

I turn back and Astrid is towering over me.
"Get out of my way I'm wining this thing".
Another blast from behind me and a yell from Gobber tells me that Fishlegs is out. My reply was something along of "yeah sure" nothing intelligible surely. She disappears moving towards the other side of the arena. I decide to move around to knowing that Deadly Nadder rely more on their scenes of smell. I hear Astrid's battle cry come towards me. The blue and yellow dragon is suddenly standing over me. Before it can make a move I reach up and scratch under her chin causing her to fall. Astrid stops midway through the arena all I can hear is her screaming curses.

Gobber walks in with a smile on his face. He places the dragon back in her cage. He walks over to me and seems to waits for Astrid to calm down before calling her over. Both of us are standing next to Gobber as he lifts his hand above Astrid head and looks up at a lady in the crowd of people that I hadn't noticed. I'm surprised to see Gothi, the village elder. She shakes her head. Gobber then raises his hook above my head. Gothi points and nods this time, sending the crowd in the cheers. Even Gobber starts to jump around in excitement.

"You done it Hiccup!! You get to kill the dragon!!"

I feel sick at those words.
