When they got home, It was still silent. They decided to skip dinner and head straight to bed, so that's exactly what they did.
Jade did her nightly routine before finishing up with a quick brush through her hair. She glanced at Coden already in bed, in nothing but his boxers, staring at absolutely nothing.
Shit, she thought.
He was supposed to be better, what happened? Maybe it was just overwhelming, maybe he needed some time to realize all that happened today. That was probably it.
"Hey, I'm exhausted. Ready to sleep?" She asked casually as she slipped onto her side of the bed.
"Hm, what? Oh, yeah I'm pretty tired." he began turning off his lamp.
"Baby, are you okay?" She asked kindly, now that they were in bed together.
"Yeah, I'm fine," he said, looking at her.
She nodded, before scooting over. She looked at him for a few seconds, thinking before deciding to act on her thoughts. She reached out and pecked his warm lips, then pulled back to see his reaction.
When he did nothing she kissed him again, this time slower, and for longer.
The soft night air danced against their skin as they kissed, his hands holding onto her waist instinctively, pulling her towards his lap. She wore her lace nightgown tonight, with no bottoms underneath, which would make things go a lot quicker.
"Are you in the mood tonight," she asked in between kisses, her thighs pressing into his underneath the blanket.
He gave her one more, romantic kiss before fully pulling away. "I'm... not, sorry." he looked down. "I'm really sorry."
"Hey, don't be sorry. You know I love when we cuddle just as much as anything else," she sang before the two finally laid down in the dark, his arms scooping her up and laying her against his chest. This place would always be her home, his warmth was nostálgic. She hummed, rubbing her cheek against his skin.
" Goodnight., "
" Goodnight, Coden."
Jade fell asleep easily using the warmth of his body, but halfway through the night, she woke slightly. She was being the little spoon in their nighttime cuddles, but she noticed Coden playing with her hand, tracing small patterns. "Are you awake," She asked, repositioning.
"Yeah, sorry, I'll stop," He let his hand rest.
"No, I don't mind," She whispered, thinking, "Coden are you alright, and don't say you're fine. Talk to me." She insisted.
He sighed deeply before pulling her closer, "Today we got to see everyone," He started, "I missed them so much, you have no idea, Jade,"
"Hm, kinda knew," She mumbled,
"I thought seeing all of them would make me feel better like I would know they are all okay,"
"But...you don't feel better?" She asked, feeling him shake his head no.
"I just saw that they don't need me anymore, that's been my purpose for so long...my whole life." He sighed, squeezing her waist. Jade finally took it upon herself to turn around, seeing his sad gaze again. "I love helping everyone, but without them, it's like... I have no purpose."
"Honey," Jade dragged out, "Of course, you have a purpose, people can have more than one. You are changing the world right as we speak, and everyone is so thankful. Your family will always need you, always, I don't doubt that, but now they are finally back on their feet and thriving. You were the push they needed, and they will be forever in your debt, but your purpose isn't done just because they can survive on their own now. We don't have to move on, you can always see them, Ruth, Cassie, all of them, anytime you want. But now you're finally getting a chance to focus on other things... like yourself... like...me," She looked up, hopeful at him, "We can grow, and plan other things... like our future, because I know I'll always need you. What do you say?" She asked, hoping to change something, anything.
He smiled, slowly leaving a peck on her lips that made her heart jittery. "Of course," He whispered, "What would I do without you,"
"I'm sure you'd find someone much better, that's for sure," She made herself smile. He pulled her into his chest, kissing the top of her head.
"Doubtful," He said, "I love you."
"Love you too,"
