(Set after Captain America: Winter Soldier. Imagine Bucky comes back with Steve and Bucky and Natasha hit it off again)
Natasha Romanoff was a giver. Correction; Natasha Romanoff is a giver. Especially when it comes to her boyfriend, Bucky Barnes. So when Bucky walked up to Natasha, requesting a simple hoodie, Natasha went overboard.
Early on a Sunday morning, Natasha left the apartment, giving Bucky only a kiss on the cheek before heading off to the mall. She, of course, got the help of Steve to carry bags and pick out things Bucky would love.
Natasha and Steve returned an hour later, four shopping bags in each hand.
"Bucky! I'm home!" Natasha shouted through the house.
Bucky quickly ran into the room, tripping over a stray box.
"Ah fuck!" Bucky exclaimed.
"Language," Steve murmured as he set down bags before exiting the apartment, returning a few minutes later with a small box with hundreds of tiny holes. He placed the box on the couch before patting Bucky on the shoulder, waving to Natasha, and leaving.
"Did you get me a hoodie?" Bucky asked.
"You only expected one?" Natasha asked.
Bucky's mouth fell open as Natasha picked up two of the bags and carried them upstairs, dumping the contents onto the bed before going back downstairs, and repeating the process. All the while Bucky stood in the bedroom, mouth agape as he watched the pile on the bed grow to be at least 4 feet tall and 5 feet wide. The pile consisted of clothing, boxes, and bags, of all shapes and sizes.
Natasha finally brought up the box, saying it would be opened last.
"Please tell me this isn't all mine," Bucky begged.
"Nope, this is all yours. Granted, I will 'borrow' some things," Natasha said simply, "So, pick something up, say whether you would wear or use it," Natasha instructed, "If yes, throw it at the pillows, if no, pick up a bag and put it back in there. I won't be mad if you say no to anything. Except that," Natasha pointed at the box with the holes in it.
When Bucky didn't move, Natasha gave him a little nudge.
"Go crazy," she said softly.
"I think that's more your job babe," Bucky muttered before walking wearily toward the pile and picking up a small box.
He inspected the box for a few moments before turning curiously to his girlfriend, "Hair-ties?" he questioned.
"Because I know how much you love your hair, and how bothering it gets in Summer when you're tempted to cut it off," Natasha said, running a hand through his hair, "This is a solution for that."
Bucky let out a quiet 'oh' before throwing it softly at the pillows at the head of the bed. He picked up a piece of clothing.
"Weird snow pants?" he questioned, staring at the black pants with a questioning gaze.
"Sweat-pants," Natasha said, "They're really comfy and don't cling to your legs like leggings."
"Leggings?"
"Another day," Natasha said simply.
Bucky shrugged before chucking the pants at the pillow.
That continued for about two hours, Bucky only putting a few items in the bag. Natasha was well aware that he would put those things in the bags though, for she had picked them to see if Bucky would deny anything he didn't like.
"So, what's in the box?" Bucky asked.
"It's more for the both of us than just you, but I feel like we needed another family member," Natasha said, carefully picking up the box and bringing it over to where Bucky sat on the bed.
Bucky warily opened the box, before his eyes pretty much lit up in joy. Stars were in his eyes. Literally.
Bucky let out a long, excited gasp, "It'ssosmallandcuteandsoft!!!" Bucky exclaimed as he picked up the kitten from inside the box.
Natasha couldn't help the grin that ignited on her face as Bucky stared into the crystal blue eyes of the tiny, black kitten that was the size of Bucky's hand.
"What's its' name?" Bucky asked, not looking away from the kitten who had begun wriggling around adorably in his hands while Bucky cooed at it.
"I don't know, I wanted you to name her," Natasha said, curling a hand around Bucky's hair.
Bucky thought for a few minutes, studying the small creature.
"Minnie," Bucky said with a small smile, "She's cute and tiny, and just-" Bucky looked at a loss for words, "I don't know what else."
"I think it works," Natasha agreed.
That afternoon was spent lounging around in the bedroom while Bucky played with Minnie, and Natasha folded and put away Bucky's new things.
Over the next few weeks, Natasha found Bucky lounging on the couch with sweatpants and a light sweater, Minnie asleep on his chest. She also found him with a messy bun - intentional or not - in his hair, making breakfast, Minnie perched on the counter, away from all the food, though.
All the sights both astounded and warmed Natasha, knowing she did something to help her boyfriend, who quickly became her husband.
