For a while, all she could do was stare at her arm that was now without a hand. Streams of red trickled down into the crevice of her elbow and dripped off of her like a demented rain cloud.

His words, "But it's not your fault you couldn't listen, is it?" Repeated through her mind as nothing at this moment made sense to her. And for the life of her, she couldn't bring herself to do anything but scream.

It was by chance that she was able to react fast enough to Karl's next swipe at her that was aimed directly at her neck. But luck was a fickle thing, fading just as her consciousness was beginning to like the seconds ticked by and her blood trickled out from her in seemingly endless amounts.

She's died before. That much is certain. But never has she felt what it was like to die in such a way she's about to now. Her previous death had been given to her painlessly. This one however anything but.

The walls of her throat contracted with each bout of air she willed herself to produce. "Why?" She asked. "Why are you doing this?"

"I'm going to fix things, I'm going to fix what you've broken and it all starts with your death."

She wanted to repeat herself, not yet getting the answer she felt like she deserved.

"When you die, things will start to return to normal in this timeline. People will snap back onto the paths they're destined to take, and those who you call family will do what they were supposed to do originally."

A hot bundle of tears gushed through strained eyelids. It didn't make sense. None of this made sense. What did she do? What was she supposed to have done?

He'd said it himself. It wasn't her fault she couldn't listen. So why must she pay the price for something that was completely out of her control?

The pain was receding, leaving behind barely noticeable tingles that swarmed through the entirety of her body like bees to their hive.

She couldn't fight back any longer if she tried. She couldn't ask him any more questions if she wanted to. This was it. This is the end. And if what Karl was saying was the truth, then this was how things were supposed to be. Her, dead, and the people she's come to truly cherish as family living without her.

"I'm sorry your fate is so... pitiful, but I'm only doing what I have to." Karl placed the heel of his shoe on her temple, pressing her face further into the mud. The tip of his sword rested on her jugular, daring her to move so it could pierce through the delicate flesh. "I hope in your next life things will be better,"
