I go into the studio when I get home. The boys are standing in a triangle, waiting for me.

"We're sorry, so sorry. We are super-duper, crazy stupid sorry!"  They sing. Waving their arms and smiling.

"If you missed it, we are really sorry." Reggie says.

I look at each of them, unamused. "Yeah, I got that."

They look a bit sad but like they expected it.

"But, Y/N, it wasn't okay that we flaked on the dance last night. We know we let you down." Luke says.

"Yeah," Alex adds. "and none of us wanted to disappoint you. You're the best thing that's happened to us since we became ghosts."

Luke nods. "So, in hopes that you'll rejoin the band," He steps toward me and reaches out a piece of paper. "we booked a new gig."

"A mega important, life-changing gig." Reggie smiles.

"Very important. Tons of managers looking for new bands. It's perfect!" Luke says.

I look at the paper and back at the boys. Then I get an idea. "So this means a lot to you, huh?" All the boys nod. "Kind of like how playing in front of my whole entire school meant a lot to me."

The boys' smiles fade. They realize what I'm getting at.

Alex looks at me. "Look, we know we messed up."

"But we need you in the band!" Luke pleads.

"Of course you do," I start. "because without me, no one can see you guys playing." I step toward Luke. "You know, I thought that the music we were making was special."

"It is-" Luke says.

I cut him off. "But you're too caught up in the past; in Bobby, to even care."

"But I do care, Y/N!" Luke exclaims. "Our band has a real chance at greatness. I'm not going to let that get away from us." He looks at the boys. "Not again."

"You guys should have been there. You should have been there for me. But you weren't." I look them in the eyes. "Do you know how embarrassing it is? To stand in front of your school, and have them make fun of you? To laugh at you?" None of them answer. "It sucks. And you guys should have been there."

None of them object as I grab my bag off the ground and leave. And even if they did, I wouldn't let them stop me.

After I put my stuff in my room and grabbed a snack from the kitchen, I set out all my work in the living room.

After a few minutes, I hear the whoosh of the boys appearing in the room with me.

"Hey, you, uh, got a second?" I hear Alex in front of me.

I turn my book to the side and lay on the couch, ignoring him.

"Oh my gosh," Reggie says. "She can't hear us anymore."

Despite my anger, I almost chuckle at his stupidity.

"Dude." Alex sighs. Reggie lets out an 'ohhh'.

I feel Alex sit down on the arm of the couch, and I turn slightly to see him. "Y/N, please." I turn to face him fully. It's hard to stay mad at them. They did apologize and I can tell how much this means to them. I decide to forgive them and rejoin the band. But I'll let Alex make his case first.

"We want you to know that Luke isn't as selfish as he seems." When Alex says that, I realize for the first time that Luke isn't here.

"Where is he?" I ask.
