you became more accustomed to your new high-school schedule. which made the days and weeks run more smoothly.

it was lunch and you sat at your usual table with Sara and the rest of your friends. all engrossed in the topic of the conversation or too busy eating. the conversation suddenly grew quiet as someone approached the table.

turning your attention to the person everyone was now staring at. your gaze landed on a nervous-looking Wirt who was fumbling with something in his hands. But why your really thought in that moment is that he looked kinda nice in the maroon colored sweater he was wearing.

"Hey uh you left this at my house " he stuttered out handing you a folder filled with colored papers. your name engraved on the front in faded sharpie as you gasped softly in recognition, how clueless of your to leave it at thier house.

"oh thanks " you replied taking the folder with a bashful smile.

"yeah... um bye " he responded. as he scurried off.

the silence that lingered at the table which was left from the interaction was cut off by Sammy suddenly letting out an incredulous gasp and exclaiming "are you guys..!?".

"what?"(y/n) gaped at their friend in slight confusion. their cheeks turning a light tinge of pink.

" are you guys like like ?!" Sammy asked again with slight emphasis. Her eyes so wide you swore this girl was about a pop a blood vessel from how dramatic she was being

"oh! um, I j-just babysit his little brother. that's all." (y/n) said. in a haste to save themselves from any further embarrassment.

"weren't you and like Wirt really close ?" asked Travis curiously.

"omg! yeah, they would write poems and stuff together!" exclaimed monchi in recollection with a mouth full of brownie.

suddenly any other surging topic of conversation was pushed aside. as everyone at the table was suddenly invested in the (h/c) girls' relation with the tall Burnett.

"it was honestly so cute~!" Marcy gushed. at this point, the (h/c) girl's face felt hot and was sent ablaze by her friend's light teasing.

"(y/n) and Wirt sitting in a tree k-i-s-s-i-n-g~!" monchi teasingly sang, as the rest giggled and laughed. leaving (y/n) with red cheeks and an embarrassed expression. As she picked at her chicken panini that was starting to get cold.

"come on guys " Sara lightly scolded with a playful glare as the rest of their friends tried to cease their laughter.

"they don't mean it In a mean way, (y/n)" Sara assured with a sympathetic smile. Flicking at Travis in a scolding yet playful way as the blond laughed

"oh uh yeah I know " (y/n) replied with an awkward giggle. Trying to cool down their face by taking a quick sip of their water

as if the conversation never happened. everyone at the table resumed doing their own thing or mingled with one another. leaving (y/n) to their thoughts as the day carried on.

the girl would be lying if they didn't have a certain fondness for the tall Burnett. as the only recollection of him would be her former years of elementary school, learning how to play instruments together, shearing poetry and stories with one another.

the girl knew how ignoring her feelings would get her nowhere, that's something she understood. but just because she acknowledged her feelings doesn't mean she should share them.

sure she could tell one of her friends. but then that would mean enduring another round of their teasing.

and although it's heartfelt she would rather not suffer that kind of humiliation.

welp

Wirt tried (emphasis on tried ).

he tried to ignore his feelings. perhaps if he pushed them aside and acted as if they weren't there they would just go away.

(but if we were gonna be completely honest with ourselves. that never got anyone anywhere.)

just as he predicted once again he was writing about his internal turmoil and love-struck feelings. (he even went as far as starting to record his poems ) sure he was in the same situation he was in with his crush on Sara.

but there was something different this time. (the fact that now he could keep his composure around the (h/c) girl and not become a stuttering fool was evidence enough)

something more, perhaps it was because they both had similar interests from what he could remember, perhaps how she was in many of the same classes he had at school.

( or perhaps the fact that she babysat for his little brother once or twice a week regularly now. allowing him to see her more )

whatever the case was he couldn't get her out of his head and only reminisce on their elementary school years together.

Wirt and (y/n) were never best friends, they were good acquaintances at best, who shared their interests with one another. (at least that's how Wirt saw it )

but it's not to say (y/n) wasn't friendly or kind. she was actually very patient whenever they had a conversation. and quite social too, going on and suggesting that they should share their poems for their old creative writing class.

even going as far as saying they should suggest writing prompts to one another. sharing stories and going to music class together. but Wirt just got too shy to have a proper conversation and in the end of it he would either feel happy and giddy or regret all his life decisions.

( at least now he could actually talk to her without getting too nervous. quote on quote)

at the moment he was sitting at his cluttered desk (as mentioned before) writing a poem.

if his brain couldn't get his thoughts in order maybe poetry will. he could feel the familiar butterflies in his stomach, the feeling of his heart beating so fast it would explode. it hadn't even been but a couple of weeks since the girls return to the school. and he was already growing fond of her.

while he could no longer ignore it. he convinced himself that this perhaps was the emotional need to attach to something in the absence of Sara. but a small part of him doubted that.

regardless his brain was putting his heart on leash pulling it back from even getting close to the idea of having a crush(wich lead to love).

he despartly tried using logic to sort out his feelings as well as scolding himself for even thinking about it.

having a crush.

his hand glided over the paper. as he hoplesly tried to write down what he was feeling.

he was truly at war with his own mind. word after word he tried to descrive what he was feeling sorrow, frustration, regret, nostalgia, love.

perhaps a mix of everything.

1009 words wow was this chapter was long

Side note ( going off from the last chapter I wanted to show the differences on how both y/n and Wirt viewed each other in their formative years. The difference with y/n being her remembering him as a close friend while Wirt being anxious and pessimistic, thinks that they never really had a friendship to begin with because of his shy nature )

don't forget vote and please comment [I get lonely :') ]

with lots of love -rems
