Jessica didn't feel right being with Jack.
Guilt was the main factor as to why why, she felt bad leaving Josh for Jack. But Jack did ask her first after all.
"Noah, sauce the aqua buddy." John Hayden, Jack's teammate said to other draft prospect Noah Hanifin.
"So are you from around here?" Jack asked as they lay on Jack's bed, hands intertwined.
"Not from Montréal, but Québec." She replied, french accent coming out.
"Oh really? I would have never guessed. What are you doing around here then?"
"I'm here because of my dad's job, hes working for the World Juniors."
Jack's eyebrows raised at the mention of the tournament.
"That's sick, maybe I'll see you around the arena then?"
"Yeah, maybe."
Suddenly there was a loud knock at the door, interrupting their conversation.
"Get the door, Hayds." Jack said, John growled at Jack as he got up from his spot in front of the bed.
John opened the door to see a lanky blonde haired boy walk in.
"Staff is coming to check rooms soon, so wrap it up in here." He said with a wink to Jack, before smiling at Jess.
"Fuck off Thatch." Jack laughed, "Thanks for the warning."
'Thatch' left the room, with the remainder of Jack's teammates following with a quick goodbye. Leaving Jack and Jess.
"So I guess I should walk you down." Jack said, climbing off the bed.
Jessica pulled put her phone, to simply check the time, but got distracted by the many missed messages and calls from unknown numbers who she assumed were the Team Canada boys.
"You coming?" Jack asked now standing at the door.
Jessica nodded, deciding to check the messages on her way back.
Jack took her hand sending a warmth she knew she would be longing when she stepped outside. He led her out of the room slowly making their way to the lobby to prolong the inevitable goodbye.
"Are you gonna be at the arena tomorrow?" Jack asked as the elevator dinged, signalling their arrival at the lobby.
"For sure, I have to be there for the big game." She giggled and looked up at his beaming smile.
"Good."
Jack stopped the two just before the doors, looking at Jessica with an expression she couldn't decipher.
"It was great to see you again, Jess."
"Yeah," She said, accepting the little bit of truth. "It was."
Jack stared at her longingly before beginning to lean in. Jessica's eyes widened, knowing what was about to happen.
She began to over think the situation eventually panicking and swerving her head to face her cheek towards Jack, having him kiss her cheek.
"Oh sorry- I uh.."
"Thanks for tonight, see you." Jessica quickly spoke, speeding out of the hotel.
She felt like the biggest idiot in the world exiting the hotel. She regretted not going with Jack's lead. He probably thought she was a pussy or some stupid stereotypical mainstream guy term.
Jessica groaned at herself, pulling out her phone to check her unread messages.
One caught her eye, reading; Hey where are you? -Josh
She groaned even louder at the message, Josh finding out Jess was gone from the hotel was not what she wanted, neither was embarrassing herself in front of Jack.
The night just wasn't on her side.
Luckily Team USA's hotel wasn't far from Canada's, so it was a short leisurely walk to the living quarters.
"There she is!"
Jessica watched as several members of the team ran and attacked her with a hug.
"The whole team was so worried that you were gone! Where did you go?" Brayden asked, as he was the last to be clinging onto her.
"I was with Eichel, okay."
"Jack Eichel?" He clarified, and Jess nodded.
"Of course she was!" Nic said from his spot behind Bowey and Virtanen. "Lucky shit."
Jessica playfully rolled her eyes and pushed past several of the players.
"I'm fine, no need to worry." She said, turning around to walk backwards towards the elevators.
"Watch where you're going Jess!" Jake said, signalling for her to turn around.
"Are you my mom, Virtanen?" Jessica asked, though did as she was told. The elevator doors opened as soon as she did, becoming face to face with the one and only Josh Morrissey.
"You're here." He said in a breath, suddenly pulling her into a hug bringing tingles to her sides where his hands were. Josh's embrace definitely comforted her after the disappointing night, it made her feel good that he would still look out for her.
"I'm glad you're okay." Jessica looked up, still resting her head on Josh's chest as she wrapped her arms around him. She sent him a warm smile almost to thank him for his kindness.
"Hey you two, lets move it yeah?" Jake commented, pointing to the elevator.
"Fuck you, mom." Jessica replied, not wanting him to ruin the moment Josh and her were having.
Virtanen scoffed, taking his place beside Jess in the crowded elevator.
"That is no way to speak to your mother, honey buns."
The guys in the elevator looked over at Jake curiously, as he blushed in embarrassment.
"Alright, I'm just gonna shut up now." He laughed, causing his teammates to join in with him.
